That's one of the best assessments of Fury I've seen in a while. Props to you, sir.

I am getting called a hater, despite admitting he is a great and would be top 50 all time

I would very much think so.

And then... Would Fury have beaten Joshua at any point since his return?

Maybe, but I wouldn't be confident of it.

And that's kinda the point, really, it's difficult to say whether Fury's been top 2 at any point in his active career (barring straight after Wlad - before it became clear he wouldn't rematch).

I'm not sure, it will remain a mystery, sadly
However, it's clear who wins now imo

Joshua would likely spark him now

Indeed, we'll never have proof - and it's too late now for a fight between them to be definitive.

I think there's a good chance Joshua always sparked him - their resumes since Wlad are different levels...
I mean, there's a reason you can't argue for Fury having the better overall resume without assuming the Wlad win was much better and that Wilder was ever anything but a fraud.
Personally, I don't think the Fury win over Wlad was really any better (but then I value Joshua's willingness to rematch and scorn Fury's reluctance) but if it was it certainly wasn't by all that much - and of course I've always maintained Wilder was manufactured fraud, wins over Parker and Povetkin dwarf the 3 wins over Wilder.

One of those "what-if" questions that will be argued forever.

It depends what version of Fury is in question.

Top 3 of his era and a serious contender?
    Not overrated.

Unusually skilled and mobile for a huge man?
    Not overrated.

    #1 of his era?
    Overrated.

A head-to-head nightmare for every ATG at heavy?
    So overrated it's comical.

If you truly believed everything you wrote about Fury, you overrated him bigtime... But I'm not sure you did.

I think Fury would handle Joshua pretty easily.

Not because I think Fury is that much better than Joshua, I just think Joshua wouldn't let his hands go. He's been fighting scared since Ruiz I to me.

    Hmm.

I don't see it that way - he's not so much "fighting scared" as being more methodical and patient...

It's not necessarily a bad thing to fight a little more cautiously and get the measure of an opponent before either judging or creating an opening to really commit to.
The majority of the best fighters don't overcommit too early Usyk being an obvious case in point (often settling for points wins rather than going for the KO - if he knows he's well up on the cards, there's little need to risk opening himself up.

Thing is, in line with this assessment... Fury can be quite sloppy sometimes, he gifts away openings and they've got him knocked down against lesser punchers.

The Fury that fought Wlad Vs the Joshua that fought Wlad would be interesting...

The Fury since his comeback Vs the Joshua of the same time period? I think Joshua would win.

Disagree. AJ would be a predictable opponent for Fury, and he'd be outboxed to a decision.

Now that would make for a brilliant fight.

And I think it might be a better one than you think - Bud's often looked outstanding by being the bigger man as well as a first-rate boxer... Usyks often looked outstanding despite being the smaller man.

Make them the same size and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Usyk won.

It'd be a belter to watch, for sure.

He was initially after Ruiz but not since he's changed trainers.

I would favour favour Fury over Joshua but only if he's at his best and even then Joshua has a fair punchers chance.

He'd have to be at his best though and even then Joshua has a fair punchers chance.
