I shat on Fury's resume before and gave him little credit for his win over Cunningham, but even after being stopped by Fury Cunningham went stride for stride against a top 10 heavy. I had him winning the fight, but I wouldn't call it a robbery. His win over Mansour was also impressive after the Fury knockout. I can admit when I'm wrong, and I clearly underrated Fury's resume even though I've always been a huge fan of his.
I always said he was a beast, but I gave him little to no credit for the Cunningham win, it's obvious that even though Cunningham is nearly 40 he still has a lot left in his tank competing and beating 5-15 ranked heavyweights.
its his best win bar the very decent journeyman Dereck Chiz, but that in itself says a lot. Of course, it says a lot that for hi age hes ahead of Wilder and Co....nd it says a lot, that that isn't a lot at all.
Fighters with a 4 pound weight advantage have had their wins discredited on those grounds alone. Fury had, what, 60+ pounds on him? It's HW so that's the name of the game, but that is also why HW is HW right now.
Cunningham being a natural cruiser is one of the reasons I criticized him but age and HW resume were my main criticism. He's proved that he can compete with top HWs though even after getting stopped by Fury.
Underrated. Could've been a KO (or disqualification) loss with a different ref. Needed a bevy of fouls to stop a man half his size while down on the cards.
I'm not talking about the performance, I agree Fury was fighting dirty as hell, I was talking more about the name on his resume.
