I just took a look at Ring Magazine's pound for pound list. A lot of the fighters listed are likely closer to the end of their career's than the beginning, with some openly talking of retirement. How will the P4P list look in 2 or 3 years times. Will it be dominated by the likes of Pavlik, Cotto etc, or are there are any dark horses coming through? Who do you predict the future Top 10 or Top 5 will be?
I expect Gamboa to jump into the top 10 by late 2009 Abner Mares should also be in top 10 in late 2009 Linares maybe. Valero will be exposed now that he can fight in the US Barthelamy will do better than Gamboa in my opinion. He has more technical ability where as Gamboa is mostly athletic skill and wont hang for long at the top. Juan Diaz will rule p4p for quite a few years to come yet. Cotto will also be battling Diaz for the top spot. My darkhorse is still Humberto Soto. He is just entering his prime and i hope he makes top 10 one day.
In a few years I think these guys will be on p4p lists (or slowly get back onto them) Gamboa, Mijares, Juan Diaz, Malignaggi, Cotto, Pavlik, Bute, Paul Williams, Robert Guerrero, Guzman (will still be in the mix and hopefully get a big fight)
im naming a few prospects probably... david haye, nonito donaire, juanma lopez, chad dawson, juan diaz, jorge linares, etc.
PBF can keep talking about retirement all he likes but the guy is in his prime and IMO he could continue to dominate for 5 more years, easy. Pac will retire within 4 fights, specially with the kind of fights hes talking about, Hatton, PBF, DLH. Heck even the likes of JMM must take out alot from him, yet alone those guys. Calzaghe will retire soon undefeated, cant see anyone beating him within this few years but he seems to be smart enough to be able to walk away on top. JMM will be gone soon but may continue to fight past his prime. Jopkins definitely gone soon too.
Oh yea forgot Berto. He has a tough weight class though to go through. He would definately dominate 154 or 140. 147 is too much right now but time will tell how good he really is.
Berto and Mijares, possibly Khan but he seems a little chinny... jury is out on him as far as i'm concerned
Andre Ward, Anthony Peterson, Andre Dirrell and Jean Pascal are guys that will enter the top 10 in about two and a half to three years. That is if they dont start fighting each other too early. All but Peterson are close in weight.
