Out of curiosity, if this fight does not happen, what do you think the perception of the situation will be in 10, 25 or 50 years time? Personally I think the boxing world will look unfavourably upon Floyd. Pacquiao has already cemented his legacy and has surpassed Floyd's achievements with a greater resume and willingness to mix it with the best fighters. Sure, some people will see it as a black mark over Manny for refusing this extra testing regime, but surely without any evidence whatsoever his previous wins are not in question. I for one will always view this as a fight Mayweather could have used to cement his claim to a true ATG, but instead chose to demand out-of-the-ordinary testing rules that he has never requested before against a fighter with no history of PEDs. Given than Floyd has a history of avoiding the greatest challenges at 147 and that the rumour was perpetrated by Floyd Sr, a former drug trafficker (!), I find the whole situation bemusing. From both a legacy and financial standpoint, Floyd needs this fight more than Manny does.
Looking at it from the point of view of Floyd's legacy, if PBF wins the fight then there is no advantage in making Pac take the tests. If Pac fails the test then Floyd's legacy does not benefit from that because the fight will be off, and if Pac passes the test then there is a question mark as to wether he beat the same PAcquiao who beat Barerra, Morales, OScar, Cotto, etc. Not from those who believe Pac is clean but definately from those who thought Pac might be juicing. Now if Pac tests clean and Floyd loses the fight then of course it doesn't benefit Floyd's legacy to have made him take the tests. So I think the only logical conclusion is that Floyd really does believe that based on his recent performances, Pacquiao is on steroids, and that this roided up Pacquiao would be a dangerous fight to take because of that.
When we're talking about legacy...I look at more than just who they fought. You can say Manny Pac has bigger names but after seeing the way Floyd dominated Marquez whose to say he couldn't beat any of those guys especially at those weight classes??? 130-135 Floyd Mayweather was absolutely untouchable...most of his opponents he beat early in his career went on to become champions after taking a lost to Floyd Mayweather a lot of fighter's actually became better fighters after losing to Floyd...I can't really say that about Manny. Manny's legacy to me is he's the guy who came thru when everyone else was done. MAB and Erik Morales had already fought 3 brutal fights before Manny came thru to pick up the piece's to what was already damaged...he lost one with Erik. There was no need to even fight MAB again. Marquez....in my opinion beat Manny both times. I don't know how much Marquez has left in him but i would have loved to see a trilogy why not Manny??? Delahoya...wasn't even the Oscar Mayweather fought...he was drained and he was tired and that was not The Golden Boy Oscar Delahoya...that's one person who has fought the best of the best everytime out. Hatton...are we serious??? Ricky Hatton was never as good as his record said he was Floyd beat him the first time. Manny got sloppy seconds. Miguel Cotto is Manny Pac's best win to date besides Marquez he did what he had to do that fight and he came out with a victory. So i don't see where people get off saying that Manny's legacy is better than Floyd's I just don't see it...Corrales, Judah, Gatti, Manfredy, Chavez, Castillo are better than anyone Manny Pac has ever fought and i'd take them against MAB, Morales, and Marquez especially given the times he fought them they weren't over the hill they were prime and they were ready and they all lost...just like Manny will.
I like how you nitpick Pacquiao's legacy yet ignore the gaping holes in Floyds. E.g. you list Gatti as a boxer better than anyone Manny has fought. Are you serious? Arturo 'I block punches with my face' Gatti? The man Floyd himself called a C-Grade fighter, bah! Most respected boxing writers/historians rank Pacquiao's legacy above Mayweather for good reason. Anyhow, this thread is not about that, read the OP!!
LOOOL you know nout about boxing then. The Marquez fight doesn't count as a win over a HOF. It counts as a victory over a fighter who weighed loads less and was forced to come up 2 weight divisions. And then Floyd deliberately cheated and come in 2lbs over. Maybe Floyd should start fighting bigger fighters...ask yourself, why didn't Floyd fight an actual welterweight for his comeback? Ask yourself why is hasn't fought any welterweight of note? Ask yourself why he didn't fight Hatton at 140? There's just too many questions over Mayweathers head still.
first off if pac does man up and take the test he will OBVIUOSLY be clean!!!!!!....u don't take a test in which u wouldn't u deny that test and try and put it all on ur opponent...if he does not ever take it he will be looked at the same way mainstream is looking at him now....how the hell is floyds legacy tainted in any way for wanting a guy whom alot of people think may be on something take a random blood test??? lol it should not even be an issue...pac will always be tainted if this figh never happens...not by me cuz i could care less cuz floyd will go on to bigger and better things but by the public
he didnt cheat and if u know anything u know that...it was agreed that the fight would be a WW fight and any lbs over 144 he would pay for...the performance in the fight speaks for itself...there is NOOOOOOO weight JMM would ever have beat him at and anyone who watched the fight could clearly see that...noone forced jmm to do anything.....on the other hand why was cotto FORCED to fight under the WW limit for a title???? hmmm:huh so floyd gets NO credit for fighting ww's judah and Baldo and dominating and no credit for fighting a far better fighter in marquez and dominating after two years off....ho hum ...the haters
Said by a true nuthugger......basically he bought his way to victory. I can go pick on a little kid in the street and push him around. Does that make me look good....no. The fight was agreed at 144!!!........Mayweather showed total disrespect to his opponent and paid him off. He fought a fighter who WASN'T THAT GREAT AT 135!! but you will make out like that doesn't matter. For the nuthuggers the Marquez fight is another great name on his resume, for the actual fight fans it was a sham. Maybe the Klit brothers should fight Bhop....its a great name on the resume, forgot about size, its the name that counts looool. Judah isn't a welter and baldo are you kidding me haha. Cotto forced??.......what are you only about??? How was Cotto forced and Marquez not forced....can't you see the contradiction. They were both FREE to sign the contract. For someone with out 5000 posts you seem like a right plonker. Cotto had to drop 2lbs?? The same 2lbs that Mayweather disregarded against Marquez. So now you are saying 2lb matters in Pac fights but not Mayweather fights loool. Also Cotto had to lose 2lbs and Marquez This content is protected Btw you haven't answered the question.....why didn't Mayweather fight a true welterweight????
