Lately few of the tv stations have been experimenting new boxing commentators & pundits, I must say...i am very impressed of most of them & for sure know they have a future in tv after Boxing. This content is protected Mathew Macklin, Carl Froch This content is protected David Price, Nathan Cleverly, Enzo Macrinalli,Tony Bellew, Jamie Moore, George Groves This content is protected Amir Khan, Jim McDonnell (although he stopped now), micky cantwell im a big Amir Khan fan as a boxer ...but lets be honest as a tv guy :-(
Macklin is superb, knew his knowledge was good after he first appeared on Ringside, but his analysis is good too. Moore is very good too.
We need pundits (like Bellew, Macklin) who are actually actively following the sport outside of what they are paid to watch. Nelson and co quite clearly knew **** all of Martinez past a highlight reel and a glance at his Boxrec.
And the commentators. Kept talking about him having his hands down as a sign of disrespect towards Barker. Hard to believe they had seen him before.
They should use Jamie Moore more often, He know's what he's talking about and is not biased like certain other's, Macklin is very good as well.
I enjoyed George Groves as a pundit on the show from Germany on Saturday, good technical knowledge and breaks a fight down well. It showed how stale the normal Sky pundits have become in my opinion. I also thought Price and Bellew were excellent on the Liverpool show from a week or two ago.
As far as current boxers go, Froch is head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to mic skills. The guy was born to talk.
Remember Jon Thaxton doing a good job when Hennnesy was on ITV4. Shame he hasn't being given a chance by Sky.
