Total opposite of pep v sanchez. 2 lanky boxer brawler types that can put the very best out cold & will battle to the death almost, alexis Arguello or Sandy Saddler, your choice. Who takes this epic war, you guys vote. You have 5 days to get your bit in wether it be votes or comments but remember, its the votes that gets your guy to the FWT final.
This is 1 of the hardest fights to call. Saddler`s legacy at the weight is probably greater but thats due to alexis ambition to move up through the weights & arguello probably peaked at 130. Im not sure ANY fwt could have ko`d AA as he made it all the way to pryor at 140 before that happened. I lean towards AA because I think he has better textbook boxing skills if they box but if they brawl, AA is going to be right there with sandy as he could brawl very good aswell. Somebody might get ko`d in this 1 & I have a feeling arguello tko`s saddler.
I`ll be honest, Ive only seen arguello vs olivares at 126 lbs & he ko`d 1 of the atg`s in ruben. I understand alexis was 1 of those boxers that got better & improved with age & he was arguably the best ever 130 lber. I also knew that he had a few early losses but was a complete shell of the arguello of later yrs in those losses. Surely arguello at his fwt best could give saddler a fight, what about the fwt arguello just before he stepped up to 130, what was he like ? :good
I dont think 130 lbs existed in sandys day but I heard that he used to fight around that weight (obviously not as champ in defence of the fwt title) so Im thinking that he would have been right at home as a 130 lber but arguello at this weight looked phenomenal & Id pick alexis at 130. Despite what you say about saddler owning alexis at 126, I still think its 50/50 because were talking their fwt peaks & even tho arguello lost at fwt, he wasnt at his fwt best, what about the arguello post olivares, I might take him to do the business in a bloody war of a fight.
Forgot to mention. As soon as this thread drops down to page 2, Im counting the votes & from the fwt final onwards all polls will be 2 days max. Arguello TKO 12 saddler
Arguello started his career at 118 lbs if memory serves. He lost his first fight by TKO against a guy who had more experience than him. Jorge Reyes did not TKO/KO Arguello, the records say so, but it did not happen that way. Arguello was winning that fight but he broke his left hand and his corner decided that was better not to continue. The fracture was bad and if he had continue maybe his career would have ended that night. After the Arguello vs Olivares fight was signed, Olivares team learned that Arguello had broken his left hand in his fight against Reyes, and therefore they asked for an xray on Arguello's left hand. The reason of this was because Arguello was droping many of his opponents with his left hook and they were suspicious that Arguello might have had a piece of metal or something. The xray came out clean and that's why the fight between Arguello and Olivares happend. Regarding the dream match between Arguello and Saddler I think Arguello beats Saddler. The only possibility that I see for Saddler to win this fight is by TKO/KO. On the other hand Arguello can beat Saddler by decission or TKO/KO I think Saddler's defense was not that great. He leaves himself open, specially after throwing his left hook. This is a no no thing to do agaisnt Arguello, since Alexis right hand was great and I believe is among the best right hands in boxing. He had a great hand even at 126. Example of that is the fight Arguello vs Hernandez. Arguello had better defense and better attacking skills than Saddler and if he comes to trade in close range AA had good combos, better than Saddler. At the end I think the boxing skills and that accurate, precise, well placed and powerful right hand would make the difference. I think Saddler would have to take too many punches to succeed in this fight, and that is not a good sign when fighting Arguello. The Arguello that fought Hernandez was good but the Arguello that fought Salvador Torrez was better. Arguello by late stopage.
