    バンザイ!

(the gala starts in just under four hours - at quarter of six on Saturday evening local time in Tokyo, which is 8:45am GMT or 3:45am EST ...and there's sweet fuck all chance of me staying up that late without sleep or getting up that early, particularly with last night's Thai card having already wrought havoc on my circadian rhythm...but I'll be up in time for the main event, which should be around 6:15am EST... until then, I cede the bridge to @Boxing Prospect or whoever else is around...some good stuff on the undercard, I just need to sleep...)

    IB's RBR disclaimer:

DO NOT ASK FOR LINKS! Do not hint for them. Do not ask "what channel?". Do not make any post that could be interpreted as insinuating a link request, even if it sounds innocent (ie stuff like "Gee, I don't have a way to watch this" or "if only this was televised where I live...")

The folks at ESB do not want to get sued and therefore have adopted a VERY strict policy of zero-tolerance on stream requests to cover their butts.

    Thank you.

PS. My only other request is that, as a matter of courtesy, you refrain from posting spoilers if you are aware of undercard results that most people are going to see televised on delay. Please also don't spoil results from other unrelated events here. Thanks.

Live from the Korakuen Hall, we get the first televised Japanese card of 2019 (the only other card was an online streamed show on boxingraise)

    Show begins with-Shohei Sakaguchi (1-2-1, 1) v Impact Hiromu (1-1, 1)

3 very interesting match ups, Wake Vs Nakajima II, Abe Vs Sugita, Sadatsune Vs Oshima

1-Impact is a teenager, from a very small gym and looks like his mother did his hard! Sakaguchi is from Kyoei, he seemed to take the first round and understands what he's supposed be doing. Sakaguchi is landing jabs, taking smart half steps and landing the cleaner blows

2-Sakaguchi again showing that he understands what a gameplan is, Impact on the other hand keeps marching forward, eating jabs as a result, Sakaguchi looks levels above and is landing to head and body, Impact it marching forward with little real success

3-More of the same really, Sakaguchi just understands boxing, he's not doing anything mind blowing but is consistent, finding gaps and landing solid shots, Impact starting to look tired as the round ended

4-Impact into Sakaguchi's to begin with and Sakaguchi starts to take him apart up close, body flurry from Impact, Sakaguchi lands a hard blow, Sakaguchi now landing the shots on the inside again, final minute, Impact behind held, big right from Sakaguchi, and another, both looking tired as the bell goes

Sakaguchi hasn't won since 2013 and is 0-2-1 in his last 3...he's looked good here!

Sakaguchi got that 40-36 from all 3 judges

    Second bout - Daiki Sakamoto (1-0, 1) vs Hiroto Watabe (1-0, 1)

Sakamoto is a 19 year old from the Hanagata gym (Red corner)
Watabe looking to build on the success of JB Sports gym stablemate Ryoichi Tamura from last week! (Blue corner)

1-Watabe looking like a bully, much like Tamura, he slips and Sakamoto fires off at him, good right from Sakamoto, Watabe not getting his punches off quick enough and Sakamoto landing good clean shots, this is messy due to the aggression of Watabe,

2-Watabe getting inside and getting shots off now, Sakamoto fighting back but the pressure has gone up a level...or three, Sakamoto being caught by head shots, fires back and lands clean, Sakamoto trying to fight back but it's looking like the wheels are starting to come off,

3-More intense pressure from Watabe, tell you what if he can keep this up for 10 rounds in a few years he's going to be a ****ing nightmare! Sakamoto again firing back but the pressure is incessant, Sakamoto having moments here and landing plenty of clean shots but he cant get Watabe's respect at all...close round, but Watabe pressure gets it for me

4-Sakamoto on the back foot, again, Watabe smiling as he continues to walk his man down, so much bravery from Sakamoto who is clearly feeling the pace more than Watabe, Sakamoto holding his own at times but is being swarmed at other times, Watabe starting to slow now but he lands a cracking hook, Sakamoto digs deep, this is ****ing brilliant - even if it is crude caveman stuff!

Can't remember the referee splitting them at all!

Scored a draw...a little harsh on Watabe but no major complaints, he was landing more shots but Sakamoto's were the cleaner blows, all 3 judges had it 38-38
