Saldivar had his troubles when he faced another southpaw in Seki in the first fight... then he seemed to adjust and stopped Seki in the rematch. I am not suggesting Elorde wasn´t better than Seki... just seeing in my mind the fight and Saldivar could outwork Elorde but he would lose some rounds too. I never considered Elorde to be a boxer-puncher btw..
Never thought about this one before but a very solid mythical match up. I can see both fighters beating the other, although I may slightly favor Saldivar to win via decision. They had one notable common opponent in Ismael Laguna. Laguna gave Saldivar a tough fight and ran him close, some even saying that he should have won. While Elorde managed to knock down Laguna twice and had him hurt, winning him a convincing decision against him. Two different styles of course but it's worth noting just how solid a fighter Elorde is, especially when you take into account that he managed to beat Sandy Saddler as well.
It definitely goes both ways, physique wise, Saldivar had the edge as he was stronger, probably had more snap in his punches, and unlike Elorde had a better schedule and he also takes year long layoffs, but skill wise, it's definitely Elorde with his resume and how well rounded his style was(even with lack of footage you can learn a lot)
