http://mmajunkie.com/2017/09/gabriel-gonzaga-pro-boxer-debut-oct-28 I don't like this one bit.... Tragedy waiting to happen. His chin was always pretty suspect, but now it's complete glass. Does he actually think he's going to be a draw and is looking to ride the coattails of McGregor/Mayweather - or is he just desperate for money? In any case he's not going to go anywhere and there's real danger of him being seriously hurt like Hague. H\
This is strange news as Gonzaga is old and shot and never had particularly good boxing skills in MMA. I doubt it's for money as he could probably make more fighting in regional level mma shows where his status as a former UFC title challenger carries weight, hell Bellator might even scoop him up seeing how crap their HW division is. I'm more inclined to think it's just him satisfying a curiosity rather than actually being delusional enough to believe he can go anywhere.
He was never that good a striker. He was always a BJJ fighter who threw one good high kick his entire career.
Yes and that kick came in the closing seconds of one of the most boring and rotten fights anyone has ever had the displeasure of witnessing. Nevermind I was thinking about a different fight...I forgot about the Cro Cop fight
He improved his boxing a bit(namely counter striking) and it got to his head. https://media.giphy.com/media/De95jtbyRsbuw/giphy.gif https://trianglechokemma.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/25116-1.gif?w=478&h=269 On his last UFC run he finally got to his senses and tried going back to his bread and butter, but it was too late. By then his chin has eroded considerably from years of standing and brawling.
He's certainly not on my short list of MMA guys who could make a successful transition to the sweet science.
