The UFC 121 announcements are coming fast and furious, and a heavyweight matchup is the latest addition to the card.

Former UFC heavyweight title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga (11-5 MMA, 7-4 UFC) and "The Ultimate Fighter 10" blogger Brendan Schaub (6-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) have agreed to meet at the Oct. 23 event.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has confirmed that bout agreements are expected to be finalized shortly. Sportsnet.ca was the first to report the contest.

Featuring a heavyweight title clash between champion Brock Lesnar and challenger Cain Velasquez, UFC 121 takes place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., and airs live on pay-per-view.

Gonzaga fights for the first time since a March loss to Junior dos Santos at UFC on Versus 1. The Brazilian heavyweight, who will always be remembered for his head-kick knockout of Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, is just 1-2 in his past three outings, though the losses came to top prospect dos Santos and recent title challenger Shane Carwin.

A threat with his submission game as well as a strong striker, "Napao's" remaining career losses came in an August 2007 bid for the UFC title against Randy Couture and in a January 2008 fight with Fabricio Werdum, who recently defeated Fedor Emelianenko.

Meanwhile, Schaub returns to action for the third time in 2010 and a little more than three months removed from a 67-second destruction of Chris Tuchscherer.

Schaub also defeated Chase Gormley in March for his second-consecutive win following a disappointing knockout loss to Roy Nelson in the finals of "The Ultimate Fighter 10" tournament. An explosive competitor who fights out of Colorado's Grudge Training Center, "The Hybrid" has never fought beyond the first round and has averaged just 58 seconds of cage time in each of his six career wins.

Schaub pissed off Dana? Or is he trying to clean house?
Also Hamil vs Ortiz has been added to card. Meh?

Gonzaga is still fighting for the UFC?? Holy **** thats crazy. Just goes to show how a win over a shot Legend can take you far. Strikeforce may have a shot at dethroning the UFC if this keeps going.

:nono Gonzaga is a very good top 20 level fighter with some serious jitz and stand up despite a below average chin. Go watch his fights with Werdum and Cro Cop and tell me he doesn't belong in the UFC. Speaking of Cro Cop how can you say he was shot against Gonzaga? The man was coming off his biggest win ever in claiming the final OWGP and Gonzaga's win was a huge upset at the time. Don't try to rewrite history and discredit his accomplishments. Its almost as bad as when people discredit Fedor's wins over Arlovski and Sylvia retrospectively.

Gonzaga is a very solid fighter. Schaub is actually looking pretty promising, but I think that Gonzaga takes this. He is probably the best gatekeeper in the UFC.

Strikeforce is going to take over because Couture, Werdum, Carwin, and Dos Santos beat Gonzaga?

Because Gonzaga sucks and his only win is against a shot as Tua Crocop. If looking good for 10 seconds makes you a good fighter, **** then who is a bad fighter?

I dont think Cro Cop is all that shot..The bloke still pulled out a very solid win against Barry a month or so ago..Took some bombs that a SHOT fighter would of been ended with..

People commenting on Gonzaga being in the UFC still as if its a crime???They aint giving him title shots.

He is clearly a tough fringe contender at best.Nothing wrong with that..And i like the UFC matching him up with fighters like Shaub.Their only one way to move up the ranks for guys like Shaub and its by fighting tough opponents like Gonzaga who are a fraction under the top 5plus blokes..

It's called a gatekeeper and it's importantant to have them so we can tell what Shcaub is made of. If he can't get by Gonzaga we know where he is at. At the same time Gonzaga is a talented guy who always finds a way to lose, he just can't seem to put it altogether..

Someone's getting KTFO here quick. I reckon it's gonna be Gonzaga unless he can get it to the ground.

Gonzaga is to talented to lose this one. I expect him to take this fight to the ground and finish Schaub quickly. Gonzaga is as talented as anyone in the UFC if you excluse his average chin and weak heart.

10 secounds ? Gonzaga catches a kick, takedown, pounds Mirko with elbows for 3 minutes and cuts him, standup and nearly kills him with a head kick. Complete and total domination. Tua ? Tua's last quality win was in 2002 agianst Michael Moorer while Cro Cop had just raped Wanderlei and Barnett and then because he lost hes shot ? No he just got his ass kicked by a talented fighter.

Decent and maybe entertaining fight. I have npo problem with Gonzaga being in the UFC...he is still a decent name and a good fighter and worthy of getting on cards....sure he must be better than a few low card Strikeforce heavies?
