^ ah, seems to be geo-restricted to just ESPN subscribers in Mexico. Wonderful.

This is for the WBA Fedebol super welterweight title, first defense of Maestre (who captured the belt in his pro debut)

La Joya has lost three of his last four. He won't get a lot of credit if he upsets Maestre, but it'll be a huge victory in truth, and show he's still a world level player. (if only fringe)

    Round 1

Cháves is hooking the body, as Maestre counters with hard overhand rights on the neck and spearing rights diving in low, buried straight ahead into the belt line of the Argentinian. Good exchanges as they step together, both landing with authoritative thuds in a collaborative symphony of percussion. Cháves goes down, slip - but there was a punch that seemed to buzz him just before that. As they resume swapping blows, Cháves is unequivocally hurt by a Maestre overhand right. The savvy Venezuelan moves in, hacking at Cháves' face with short & swift blows, and Cháves is down, this one crystal-clear and counted officially. Saved by the bell.

    10-8 Maestre

    Round 2

Cháves is standing his ground as Maestre runs in and dusts him with shots. Cháves bends over and is hit behind the head a few times and practically belly-flops onto the canvas. Maestre runs to a neutral corner to celebrate thinking he scored another knockdown and is on the verge of a stoppage, but Tony Weeks is waving no, and doesn't give Cháves a count as he gets up...which he takes his time doing. Maestre harangues Cháves against the ropes, bringing down savage overhands in a slow & steady rhythm. Cháves in rough shape. Cháves able to battle his way free with some big wide hooks on the body, only to get his circuits all scrambled again by another whistling Maestre counter overhand right at mid-range. Cháves backpedals and loops out hard rights while performing a shoulder roll and writhing into a serpentine coil leaning away from Maestre.

    10-9 Maestre

    20-17 Maestre

    Round 3

Cháves having a good round for once, boxing and moving, roping out a firm left jab into the face of Maestre and then gliding to his left, taking occasional skipping double-steps in reverse to reset his spiraling trajectory, avoiding that power rear hand of the Venezuelan. Maestre is diving in with some powerful lead rights on the body, some of them making partial contact, but Cháves is keeping just enough distance to stay clear of major harm while always scoring his jab.

    10-9 Cháves

    29-27 Maestre

    Round 4

Maestre barrels in and hammers Cháves onto the canvas in the opening moments as they answer the bell. Hard body combos and overhands (some landing on the nape of the neck, but many clean head shots). Cháves up but unsteady once more. Cháves lobs in some light uppercuts as pretense to grind in close and tie up, stalling for time. Ref breaks them, another clinch by Cháves. Hard left hook on the body from Maestre and Cháves is rolling around on the canvas, but somehow Tony Weeks again with the no-call. He ruled it a slip and gave Cháves an extra ten seconds to make his way up, dizzily. Maestre batters Cháves down on the mat again with a vicious body whack. Tony Weeks is debating whether or not to start a ten-count when Cháves' trainers make it a moot point and relieve him of the burden of decision-making, with two members of his corner running into the ring and waving their arms.

    TKO4!!
