Gabriel José Maestre Pérez vs. Diego Gabriel Cháves RBR

The longtime Joya fan in me hated seeing that... but Maestre is a beast and is going to be fun to watch, for as long as he makes this pro run. (he is 33, but only debuting this late because he was a two-time Olympian and dominant amateur star)

 

Cháves needs to retire. He's now 1-4 in his last 5 bouts, going back 2½ years...with three of those losses by stoppage. Funny thing is, he's the same age as Maestre - but one guy is just starting a promising professional career while the other is showing signs of desperately needing to pack it in.

 

Also, really puzzled as to why this was geo-restricted to Mexico, when the main event was a Venezuelan versus an Argentinian?

Even in the co-main, the A-side was a Colombian (the guy that was 20-0 when defeated by a pro-debuting Maestre, actually) - but his opponent was a Mexican journeyman.

Holy ****, word is that Maestre (currently WBA #5 at welter) could be in an eliminator next, in just his third pro bout!

Which means a possible world title shot (likely against "regular" champ Alexander Besputin, since Maestre isn't a big enough name for "Super" champ Manny Pacquiao to bother with) in his fourth.
