This grotesque double-whammy of "lord help me, I can't look away..." matchmaking is nearly finalized now for August 18th in El Paso. This is 100% happening per Camacho Jr. on social media (although he is sort of the boy who cried wolf at this point, having announced many false alarms in the past...but in this particular instance corroborated by a few trustworthy & in-the-know boxing scribes...)

Rosado will have fought Angulo 9 years & eleven days prior when they step into the ring for their rematch. This was back when they had only 15 & 16 pro bouts respectively (they now have 36 & 31). Angulo swarmed Rosado en route to a TKO2 victory in that contest, a battle of then young prospects headlining on ESPN2 FNF. El Perro will enter this one, however, on a 2-loss skid - not putting a notch in his W column in just shy of 3 years (retiring Héctor Muñoz on his stool on the LSC vs. Mares I undercard) whereas King Gabe is coming off a stoppage of Glen Tapia plus respectable showings in points defeats against ranked middleweight contenders Monroe & Murray.

There is a long & complex history between houses Camacho & Chávez, although just one instance of them officially competing. El Leyenda dominated Macho Time in his 9th defense of the light welterweight green belt, serving as its era's capstone for the classic Mexico vs. Puerto Rico boxing rivalry and perhaps its biggest event in terms of combined star power until Margarito vs. Cotto (and perhaps beyond). In his own relatively obscure career, "Machito" has attempted to land dates - and with them, personal record paydays - with various of Chávez's fighting sons, especially his namesake Julio, the most famous. For the better part of a year now there have been negotiations for him to battle Omar aka the Businessman (who is probably best known for a pair of 2-fight rivalries with yet another couple of ho-hum relatives of notable champs: losing close on points twice against Jorge Páez Jr. and going 1-1 against Ramón Álvarez). It seems Camacho has finally gotten his wish and received an opportunity to exact "revenge" for his late father in the clans' saga, probably the culmination of the strangely fascinating career of the strangely fascinating person (Camacho is a devout Muslim after converting in mid-adulthood, living a straight-edge austere lifestyle in stark contrast with his dad, whom nonetheless he idolizes and publicly worships & emulates, down to his manner of dress & hairstyles; a fiercely patriotic boricua, yet choosing to reside full time in Ciudad de Panamá; campaigning in his first half a dozen years professionally at 140 & 147lbs and since then vacillating erratically between light middle, super middle, light heavy, and middleweight; he might hold the all-time record for self-promotion of matches that end up not materializing) - just a month before he turns 40. Omar Chávez is 28, and has 3" of height and 4" of reach on his southpaw foe.

I really hope this card gets televised. Not because it will feature a high degree of skill or matter even remotely in the grand scheme of the sport, but just for the sheer train wreck entertainment value of it. :icon_popcorn:

The old shot version of his old man(late 2000s version) would give this Camacho Jr. a spanking in the ring.... Camacho Jr. was never really good to begin with though.

Yeah but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised to see Omar's mugshot beside the dictionary entry for "mediocrity".

I think making the sacrifice of cutting weight for this - on top of having a shaky chin even in his prime, and now pushing forty - is going to be Camacho's undoing, though. He isn't a big puncher whatsoever but the Businessman can probably switch off Machito's lights once & for all.

The co-main event is the real brain-teaser IMO. On paper it should be some pretty easy revenge for Gabe, who is riding a much prettier wave of form & momentum (including his stint in BKB, claiming & defending their MW title) - but idk. Something tells me the Dog could still be dangerous here, and shot or no he might just have Gabe's #.

I know Gab has been shopping for fights from his IG, but I thought it would be bigger than this if true, which I dont think it is true.

Either way Gab HAS to be able to beat Angulo at this point if he plans to continue getting good fights as he usually does. There would be no excuse.

He did well the first time, but got caught up in the ref and then actually got caught.

Yeah Chavez sucks but he can at least punch a bit, he'll find Camacho's chin at some point.... I like Rosado here. Angulo appears to be completely spent, but for a shot fighter he's still pretty dangerous so you're skepticism might not be unfounded.

It kind of makes sense for him, if he wasn't able to land any bigger fights, to do this. Creditable or not, it does his résumé wonders at least on paper to go from just having that early loss to Angulo to having it officially notched one to one versus him. (and then, hell, milking it for a rubber match and destroying El Perro twice in a row for the go-ahead...why not?? More exploitative things have certainly happened in this sport...look at Rafael Márquez vs. Israel Vázquez IV, somehow getting sanctioned & taking place after it was already known Vázquez was half-blind...)

Interestingly, after his defeat last month to Argentine fringe contender José Carlos Paz, it was rumored that Omar Chávez was set to announce his retirement - but apparently Camacho Jr. has talked enough basura in calling him out the last few years to entice him into this one final grudge match.

Almost as grotesque matchmaking as the hurriedly made Mijares/Vasquez Jr bout this weekend... :hang

Actually every single hijo de el leyenda is a major pretenda'.

The man himself, the original superstar = bona fide ATG. Everyone from his bloodline to attempt to carry on his legacy since = apples fallen light-years from his tree. :deal:
