Anyone know of ways you can get faster slipping side to side and rolling and ducking etc?

im trying to think of ways but the only thing i can think of is maybe more ab work and leg work and shadowboxing. but theres gotta be some way you can practice explosiveness slipping punches. anyone got any ideas?

Practice the movement. The more efficient you get at doing the movement the faster it will become.

One exercice my old coach showed me was to hit the speedball, go in,slip then do it again.

Concentrate on your stance and posture (balance) its the basics for a reason funnily enough not many coach's will explain why or what the basics are for, but just say to get them down. The idea behind it all is to have the most economical muscles for all given possible movements while being able to contract the selected optimal muscle as completely as possible, your stance should be built around this idea. when youve worked this all out you will realise, there are times we will find the muscles we need to activate are already engaged due to a previous movement or action, thus slowing you down as you then need to relax the already engaged muscle and contract the muscle all over again to initiate the next movement, this occurs more often than you might first think. infact it almost always occurs.

Knowing this you must then compensate for it at all times, and know when you might need to compensate for what, when and most importantly, how. ill give you a big tip, you can use gravity and weight placement to get around this problem. however a good, solid thought out stance can solve all these problems for you, so i would start there, once you understand how it all works you can then start really using it with your own style and really start evolving as a fighter, adapting it to specific fighters and scenario's to be faster/stronger here or there when you know you really need to be,thats when you dont need to always listen to coach or follow orthadox boxing 101 to be fast or strong, you use the principles learned within the basics to figure out how to be fast doing what you decide needs to be done at the time, no need to be too orthadox at all times now, if you know what the stance is about, you can then start inventing your own on the spot to suit the situations being thrown at you.

Or do what most talented fighters do, get under a slip line and slip, weave and roll, try and be quick and let the body figure it out and do all the work, its all about feel, sometimes understanding helps, but ive seen examples when too much understanding and thought can actually inhibit. its hard to feel if you too involved in prethoughts.

Droned on for ages now, that'll do ive killed 20 mins lol.

so your take is like, work the slip line so much, and slip in shadowboxing and stuff, so that when im slipping in sparring itll be so natural that im just way quicker than just thinking about which way do i slip and etc etc..

There's nothing explosive about slipping a punch.

How so? I would've thought that it's more of a 'letting go' movement relying on your visual system and proprioceptors to provide guidance... more of a feel, precision type movement than what I'd describe as 'explosive'.... unless you were maybe continuously slipping punches?

To slip correct, comes from the Feet and knees. Its the knees that give you direction and depth, the Hips are not going anywhere without them. Nor is the Head in balance, its explosive :good

gravity....and weight placement. Quicker than using your muscles to slip and duck, more energy efficient and easier [for me more explosive to shoot off a straight while slipping like this]....you def need good balance when lowering your center of gravity so that's a given.

To move a Joint, takes muscle to move it, What the Eyes see is happening. What you have to interpret is the movement before :D, while interpreting movement, make sure youre moving yourself, its easier.

I recommend habitually train your head movement always constantly after punching, different positions at least twice if possible- while shadow boxing, practicing heavy bag, sparring, drills...etc etc. Always keep your head moving, will not only train you physically to learn the movement better but get a idea about head movement and thinking while on your feet. also look in front of a mirror.
