I'm wanting to gain weight, ideally about 20kg and to get fitter - specifically by joining my local boxing gym and actually using my local gym membership for weight training. Any advice on the above is welcome. Please note that, at the moment, I am on a VERY low income, so cannot afford protein shakes, expensive cuts of lean meat or anything that is conducive to good weight-gain. Think bread, eggs & peanut butter, & cheap 'meat' like pies, sausages etc. Occasionally we'll get something that is on special. Age: 50, current weight: 67.9kg, height 6'2". Former smoker for the last 8 years. I'll weigh myself once a week and try and update the exercise regime daily. Because I am so unfit and sedentary, today was a gentle introduction. I sparred and trained at the local boxing gym more than 30 years ago and would love to get back into it. Exercise: Dug out, lifted & replanted a huge ponga as well as removing a big tree stump with pickaxe & axe. Sweated. Walked the dog for 50 mins. More of a stroll than anything. Breakfast: 1/4 cup rolled oats, sugar & milk & cup of black tea. Lunch: 2 filled rolls with ham, tomato and cheese w/ cup of white tea, no sugar. Dinner: 2 pieces steak (approx 100 grams each), 2 fried eggs, half tomato, 2 pieces of bread & marg w/ glass of water.
Yes, it is ambitious but I want to try and see where I end up. Who knows, I might put on 10kg and be happy with that. I thought to aim for 250 grams a week gain.
Sunday 21/11/10 Breakfast: half cup rolled oats, milk, sugar & black tea Lunch: 4 pieces multi-grain bread, ham, tomatoes, cheese & tea w/ milk Dinner: One round homemade pie (approx 7" diameter) w/ salmon, silverbeet, eggs & cheese. Am starting to think I shold eat between meals as well. Exercise: 40 min walk with the dog.
Let the guy friggin do what he does man. I know the work (pulling up a stump and everything else) is tough work but that isnt really something you should include in a workout log (in my opinion), maaaybe if you did it only for the exercise then include it but it shouldnt replace a workout. I move furniture all day but its not included in my log. Include things you do purely for the exercise like walking your dog. I know you dont have a pile of money right now but your on a boxing site, consider doing a bit of shadowboxing, it works everything and will tone you up, you wont bulk up but you will end up looking bigger because your muscles are more toned. One of hollywoods favorite tricks is when you want an actor to look like he has 20lbs more muscle just get him to lose 10lbs of pure fat and he appears bigger (and takes less time). i dont know how much you have to spend but i buy bulk packs of cod like this: http://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/product.jsp?productId=191972&navAction for about 12$'s 10-15 cod about 18 g protien per cod. ill also buy bulk shrimp like this: http://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/product.jsp?productId=188486&navAction for about 12$'s and a pack of ramen noodles like this: http://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/product.jsp?productId=179419&navAction for about 7$'s then i just fry up the shrimp with alittle oil garlic and salt while i boil the ramen noodles. drain the water from the noodles add the shrimp some pepper and parm cheese and its delicious and depending on the shrimp can be as much as 40 g protien. hard boiled eggs are also great for protien, something like 11g each. skim milk is also good for protien 8g a cup.
