Crazy story. He was struck by a (probably drunk?) motorist on the freeway, who then proceeded to get out and beat him and use homophobic and racist epithets, smashing him against the guardrail and everything. Gaku didn't take a swing because he doesn't think pro boxers should fight laymen.

You might remember him from his most recent bout, a couple of months before the pandemic hit, losing an 8 round UD to undefeated Keeshawn Williams on the DSG vs. Redkach undercard. He soaked up bombs galore without flinching, and has reportedly never been knocked down before. (stopped thrice; one a corner retirement and twice waved off standing)

Godspeed to you, El Matón. :ggg

He didn't retaliate because boxers shouldn't beat up regular people? Makes no sense.

Read the full story just now. People are ****ed.

Well, there is some merit to prizefighters needing to exercise caution in situations where they could mix it up with untrained individuals. There have been cases where their fists have been ruled deadly weapons. (there seems to be some confusion on that point, where there are people who think it applies universally and others who dismiss it as just an urban legend. The reality is that it boils down to a jurisdictional issue, varying per the discretion of a particular court or prosecutor).

That's usually discussed in the context of like bar room brawls, though. In this case it sounds like the assailant was acting borderline homicidal, in which case turning your other cheek to not dishonor yourself by kayoing a civilian is...yeah, nuts.

While very noble it is a shame because his attacker deserves as much physical harm that could be done back. Terrible story.
