    It is funny the people saying histories nonsenses about pubs fights etc in order to give credit to galento lol. He could look tough against pathetic drunks and nobodies, even a finished retired dempsey kicked his ass.. Galento was a bum pork

    'Too Tall' always said he loved boxing and wanted to give it a shot. After his last fight (I think against an Hispanic journeyman) he called it quits knowing he, simply, didn't have the tools.
    I respect Ed; Jordan tried baseball and flopped for pete's sake!

    Galento is being given a bit of short shrift here. He was in the thick of the division for the better part of a decade. And it wasn't just because he landed a bunch of lucky punches. Mentally, Tony had two things really going his way. 1) He knew exactly who he was as a fighter. There was little reason for stalling or wasting energy on fancy maneuvering. Every fibre of his being was dedicated to landing that hook and roughing up his opponent. Ahd he had absolute faith in his weapons, as well he should. He could hit like a ton of bricks. 2) He fought with total determination. He had no quit. He took enormous punishment from Baer and Louis and even Nova, some heavy hitters indeed, and kept coming till either victory or defeat.

    Sure, some of these guys could make him look foolish for a moment or two or seven, but none would have an easy night, and somewhere along the way one of them would be surprised in defeat.

    I think that this is a very good post. If you look at his record, Galento fought a lot of rounds, a lot of ten round fights, especially for a guy that supposedly trained on beer and hot dogs. I read once that that was his gimmick and I'm inclined to believe it.

    I wouldn't be surprised if Galento COULD whip a lot of these guys around today, he could punch, could take a good shot and wasn't as slow as one would expect - I'd even say his activity level & stamina were superior to lots of modern fighters.

    I saw Two Ton Tony Galento fight once. He would have given a lot of well known Heavyweights down through the years tough fights. Tony was no where near as bad as many today think he was. Looks can be very deceiving.

    Tony Galento wasn’t the type of guy you’d ever expect praise from. He even called Joe a Louis a bum !!

    He was quite gracious towards Nova after he beat him, which of course shows that most of it was mind games.

    The GOAT has spoken;

    Jimmy Young is a bum, which makes Foreman a bum. Which means Galento beats Foreman in a beating that can only be compared to Louis’ own beatdown of Galento.

    I’ll credit Galento despite his obvious “WWE Heel” bit, yes Patterson is a questionable champion if you’re comparing him to the men he listed (besides Graziano) who I think he just mentioned for the reasons he stated lol but Jimmy Young really is a “poor” fighter, a skilled spoiler who took you out of your rhythm yes but still lost to a guy like Occasio x2 and Patterson is not someone you’d watch to learn to box from.
