The only thing i can be certain of is that it ain't lasting the distance but if i had to make a pick i'd say Galento by KO simply because he is much more durable and faced opponents who mirror Cooney in a way, most notably Lou Nova who he beat.
Galento was awful....and I don´t think his power was that great.....a decent powerpuncher no doubt, but nothing like Cooney IMO.... His durability is a little overrated as well...... Cooney was better......Cooney by TKO early....
Their ring acomplishments suggest the opposite. Galento uequivocaly had the better resume. He was also the more durable of the two, and had the power to seperate Cooney from his senses. This is certainly not going to be an easy fight for Cooney.
i like your post and agree with it on principal, however i think galento's ring accomplishments are a bit lacking. the only real notable win of his career (that i can see) was lou nova. he lost to godoy, both baer's and louis and against the latter 3, incredibly decisively. he really never seemed to be able to compete with top opposition and it's worth noting that the nova win may be a bit marred by his tactics. cooney's signature win over a shot norton may well trump any one of galento's wins
You are correct that Galento was much more durable than Cooney. However, I don't think that would have mattered in this fight. Galento was there to be hit, and Cooney would have had little trouble unloading his devastating left hooks. Cooney looked great against stationary targets. I pick Cooney by KO within five. Galento would be on the receiving end all night, and would probably not be able to return much fire, so Gerry's suspect chin wouldn't be an issue here.
