Great post Jowcol, you and your late friend and me and my late Dad would have got on great. We were always scrutinizing the possible matchups back then as well and Conteh-Galindez was one of them. I too was a big Galindez fan as well as being a Conteh fan, but just not with the same vigor as my Galindez tendencies. The Conteh nut was a real and viable issue with every fight. I have friends from England who would refer to him as 'pickle-head'. Of course, I'm thinking in the American term and wondering why pickle-head. And then they explained which made sense. The old game of conkers with chestnuts that were hardened by 'pickling' them in brine or vinegar. And that was the Conteh head. But I digress. I too saw the Yaqui-Bennet fight and Yaqui got screwed that night. I don't know if you saw Yaqui's post-fight interview but he was sobbing on-air over losing on a butt. Ironic that Bennet had the gall to complain that Conteh butted him in their fight.

Also, I do know what you mean when people don't match up an apples-to-apples fighter. I recall getting in a debate sometime back here, when someone was matching Galindez against Saad and using the Rossman or Johnson fights as a gauge for Galindez but using a prime Saad. And they really took offense when I said if you were going to use an end of career Galindez well let's match him with the Saad that fought Kevin Wagstaff. Oh, man, the dude became indignant about it. He just couldn't rationalize my thinking. But I had a good laugh. Thanks again for that trip down memory lane, dude.

I think if you compare their fights against mutual opponents you have to favour Conteh imo.

But the Galindez has victories over Gregory, Fourie, Kates and Johnson as well.

That being said I think by the time Conteh was slipping, Galindez was as well.

Whilst I do favour Conteh after weighing it up, it's about 55/45 and a shame this chess match never occurred.
