Floyd to Gamboa: Follow my footsteps and one day you'll be as big as I am. You see when I fight it's a complete package Gamboa. I don't give out cheap fight, my fight is a complete package. When people buy my fight ticket they get a free room, a free buffet, and a free limo ride from the airport...that's how big I am Gamboa. Follow my footsteps and one day your fights will come with free rooms, free buffets, and free limo rides from the airport.

...well, that's not going to happen unless he's broke, but they'll get the $70k back and maybe some of the expenses if it's true that Gamboa himself requested press conferences in certain locations on certain dates.

Suddenly *****s are now experts when it comes to the fans forcing fighter to fight . Before Floyd health preservation incident anybody can fight anybody and it's ok. After Floyd health preservation incident, fans should stop forcing fighters to fight if they don't want too .

You're an idiot who has spouted the same idiotic **** about Floyd offering free buffets and limo rides in thread after thread that have nothing to do with anything. Do the world a favor and kill yourself. If you don't, at least don't quote my **** and waste my time. :thumbsup

"Top Rank has promoted Gamboa and his bouts for almost three years. Since mid-2009, Top Rank has invested millions of dollars to develop, advance, and promote Gamboa's career. Under Top Rank's financial commitment and stewardship-- just the right mix and selection of opponents, venues, broadcasters, and sponsors-- Gamboa is on the verge of stardom. Now, having benefited from Top Rank's considerable history, talents, connections, and success, Gamboa willfully breached multiple obligations to Top Rank and has clearly and unequivocally announced his intent to repudiate the contracts in their entirety... As a direct result of Gamboa’s anticipatory breach, Top Rank has suffered and will continue to suffer damages in an amount to be proven at trial, but not less than $1,000,000."

I just read another article that showed that HBO had a deal for 2 mil that they canned. Top Rank might collect a bit from that, too. For only this fight, though, they're going to get the $70k and whatever reliance they can prove and maybe some of the HBO cash.

The issue you quoted is a little different because that's about ditching Top Rank as a promoter entirely. Technically you're right, though, they're certainly going after more than just this fight. I think in this case they're more concerned with keeping him under contract than they are collecting damages.

There's a pretty famous lawsuit that's taught in law schools that sort of laid out the rules for suits like this if you're interested. Dempsey backed out of a fight and his backers sued him. I'm sure the decision is online.

The ****ing pigs... Top Rank probably earned more off Gamboa than Gamboa earned off Top Rank considering every penny spent on Yuri since their co-operation came out of HBO's pocket, and Arum took his cut... Yet when Gamboa's unwilling to be a stepping stone to a much bigger fighter's stardom... Top Rank sues for what the Cuban rightfully earned... :patsch

Remember what Arum said a few years back? "I know what the fans want and they can go **** themselves."

Yay, Arum ****ed up JuanMa-Gamboa and now ****ed Gamboa too. "Take the fight 2 divisions higher with contract extension or you'll get the **** sued out of you!"

Why you getting mad for bro, I'm on your side man . I'm just preaching the words out why Floyd is the king. When Floyd fight his fight is always a complete package. They come with free rooms, free buffets, and free limo rides from the airport. Aren't you proud of Floyd .

I highly doubt ANYONE will produce anything that says how much a cut Arum and Arena Box take.

Seems too many are throwing a hissy fit on nothing more then speculation. It's ******ed how so many poster think we get all the details on purses or how much a boxer makes.

No one forced him to go to a press conference for a fight that wasn't even finalized - and he didn't.

Seriously... exactly what was Top Rank's investment, because Gamboa is not much more popular now than upon arrival as a known name in boxing and a big network regular. Ever since the deal HBO and other networks covered Gamboa shows with TR living off these fees and getting it's cut, so what are they planning to sue back exactly? HBO's money?

Gamboa doesn't need Top Rank to make a deal with HBO that chooses fights anyway, and he certainly doesn't need someone telling him "you either sign up for a fight 2 divisions higher or you'll be sued out of your earnings, sincerely, Bob Arum, your promoter."

    Good to be Gamboa, eh?

Floyd should be ashamed to call himself the biggest draw in boxing when he has to bribe boxing fans to come and watch his fights.

Top Rank argues that Gamboa requested the Miami press conference and that all material terms for the fight were agreed upon. Maybe it's true and maybe it's not, but if it is true and Gamboa only notified them that he wouldn't appear only moments before the press conference happened, as Top Rank alleges, then why shouldn't they recover that money?
