He reportedly asked to have one in his adopted hometown of Miami. And the fight was annouced WEEKS before this started remember. THAT is when he shouyld have said something. You think they would announce a fight he didn't even agree to? And you are wrong. HBO cannot promote fights (even though they essensitially do). So he needs a promoter. Doesn't have to be TR, but that's who he's locked up with. Ig Gamboa wanted to leave TR, he had better ways to go about it. For starters, NOT agreeing to a fight and NOT accepting money. He's hurtnig himself more then TR is hurting him.
This fight was ******ed to begin with. Why would a rising star Gamboa go up that many ****ing weightclasses?
This all sounds like speculation. Or does that only apply to Gamboa, while anything Top Rank says is a cold fact?
Probably thought he was getting a good deal until someone sat him down and broke down what he's getting himself into... Hopefully we'll know more soon... But Top Rank putting two stars together two weight classes apart after he refused to put one of the stars in with another star Closer to his weight class should have probably raised red flags. Like another poster said, just too good to be true.. No reason for Arum to risk that, just like it wasn't for the JML fight, in my opinion.
Fight was made only to benefit Rios from the start in my opinion. They never had any long-term plans for Gamboa except as an opponent for bigger guys with greater drawing potential like Rios. This of course is also why the Lopez fight was never made, as Gamboa was not beatable enough for JuanMa.
Lets face it, Gamboa was the best but did not make the big money for Arum. He wanted somebody else to take his position and got the idea to put him in with a much bigger guy Rios is light middle when he walk into the ring.
Gamboa is going to be ok. Stop being bitter. He will be bailed out of this mess you clowns think is major, watch.
I find it all funny because Top Rank did the same **** with Bradley and Gary Shaw. Bradley was getting good money to fight Khan in a big fight. Then Top Rank started dealing with him behind the scenes. And eventually stole him from Shaw. Which killed the Khan/Bradley fight. Arum was even gloating about it. Oh well Karma is a ***** ain't it?
:huh You see where I said "reportedly". Care to explain why else they would go through all that trouble to hold a presser in his hometown though?
