Gamboa is on the right track, these morons are just jealous. One day Gamboa fight will be as big as Floyd fight, a complete package that include free room, free buffet, and free limo ride from the airport...just watch.
Beats me, though a number of Cuban writers have stated that they thought Top Rank was publicly pressuring Gamboa to take the fight. Care to explain how they had Abril ready there to start **** if they only found out about Gamboa's reluctance the day of?
Maybe you should have asked those reporters. Did TR pressure Gamboa to take the $70K as well? Or maybe Gamboa JUST now found out about this fight a few days ago? That's logical. The hole that's been presented is, WHY did Gamboa wait this long to make a move? The next day after the fight was announced, he should have said somethuing is he was not happy with this fight. As for Abril, again, ask him. Perhaps he and bam bam have history. Maybe he sees this as his big chance to get on HBO. Or, and you'll probably like this one the most, Abril was ALWAYS the real opponent, and this is just a way to **** Gamboa. That MUST be it... Look, I am a big Gamboa fan. But if he accepted the fight verbally, and took the money, he ****ed up.
Why is it so far beyond the realm of possibility that Gamboa thought the fight could still be salvaged? Why is it so unbelievable that whatever Gamboa may have agreed to with Top Rank and/or Oner via text message (or whatever other non-contractual form they're arguing is somehow actionable) was not what was presented in the contract. What history? How is this his big chance to be on HBO if the fight was never approved for the network? I don't think he was the real opponent all along but I think he was the real opponent before the press conference occurred, and despite your efforts to wave this away as conspiracy theorizing, I think Occam's razor would result in my position rather than some vague unnamed beef between the two fighters. Would you be saying Top Rank were the ones that screwed up if they had no real actionable contract for this fight? This is all speculation anyway, right?
:huh If it could be salvaged, it's too late. Gamboa was the no show remember. Who said any of that was unbelievable? But if that was the case, you address the discrepencies right away, not hide out for a spell or no show your presser. It was a hypothetical, since you asked about Abril coming in so quickly. If Abril wins big, then he'll have more a chance to get another TV Date. I guess I should have specified that. Either way, this is a big break. You have nothing to base your assumption on Abril being the real opponent before the presser. It's not uncommon to have a back up ready. You're stretching with nothing to pin it to. Doesn't matter. What did Gamboa accept the 70K advance for? His acceptance of it suggests he was in. At least at the time he took it.
He didn't show for the press conference but up until today there were still talks ongoing with his lawyer. Why does missing a press conference mean the fight is in the gutter? If he was unhappy with the terms and hadn't signed but did show up at the presser how exactly is that supposed to improve his situation? Further, a number of Cuban writers said the fight was in danger in the two weeks up to the press conference, so this wasn't completely out of the blue. He flat out told reporters he was told to show up there by Carl Moretti. That kind of request doesn't sound like the actions of a company with full faith and knowledge that the publicly announced headlining fight is definitely going forward, especially since there was at least already one potential backup opponent fighting on the undercard in Alvardo. The idea that poor Top Rank was simply suddenly caught off guard about all of this does not pass the smell test for me. Not if the money did not legally bind him to such a fight, something his lawyer is arguing. I see no reason why his account should simply be rejected outright unless one is already looking to crucify Gamboa.
You done ****ed up, Yuri.atsch My only hope is that he doesn't become a Mayweather clone. "No quiero fajar contra fulano, tengo que pensar de mi salud."
Gamboa called out Martinez.................what an idiot............... Gamboa has borrowed a few feathers from Void...............
Fans don't care about this, just be entertained no matter how shady the deals are. At the end of the day I have to agree, Yuri shot himself in the foot with that 70k thing, still I stand behind him over the "yesterday I was lying, today I'm lying too" guy while others don't, becuase... that's the funny part... Yuri visited Floyd's gym? WHAT? atsch Donaire also wanted out and got ****ed, it seems TR contracts are pretty one-sided, Oscar, Floyd all got sued when they left. But fact remains fact that Gamboa was on HBO before TR deal so HE brought TR to some money earning opportunities he would've brought any other promoter if signed elsewhere, therefore it's a ****ing joke how TR invested in him to 'build him up', because they didn't. HBO and other networks invested in him. Gamboa's mistake was taking the 70k, that can easily be undone, give it back. I stand behind any fighter standing up to Arum-Öner, what a pair!
Obviously, we don't know all the details here or even how much of what has been said is or isn't true, so its hard to form an accurate opinion right now. I do know that Top Rank is a powerful company and have been in this situation before and have a pretty good track record lately. Top Rank is going to have the resources, experience, and connections to make this difficult on Gamboa. I wanted to see this fight and am disappointed its off but it would be an even bigger disappointment to see Gamboa sit out several of his prime years over a contract dispute. Best case is that he pays Top Rank what he's ordered to and can get on with his career, but the worse case could hurt him significantly.
Jumping two weight classes for a high profile fight is a TERRIBLE idea and would ruin you career for sure.......... This content is protected
I really don't have time for this. Gamboa had PLENTY of time to notify TR or his other promoter, or have his manager do it from the time it was announced. Then they could have ironed out the differences. You can play the 'semantics' game all you want. It's just reaching. Fact of the matter is, TR had no reason to "crucify Gamboa", as you put it. And the whole "back up" argument really means nothing to this.
