Apparently, many are complaining for what they deemed a quick count. The ref counted slowly up to 8, then said "9-10" in rapid succession.

It looked like Gamboa's opponent was fine to continue to me, what does everyone think?

Yes it was a bull**** count,....6.....7.....8...9.10.He wanted to end the fight(the ref) and Ramirez wanted toi continue.Anyway you can't take away Gamboa's merrits, even if Ramirez would have been left to continue he would have probably gotten KOed

Definitely an interesting count... but I though the ref just finished the count quickly because at 8 Ramirez was still not responding and showing signs to get up...

Why would he prevent the promoters and HBO a brutal knockout victory which was guaranteed? But Ramirez was all over the place after the first knockdown... no one would blame the ref if he just stopped without a count... but this way, it was interesting. Not controversial though, he saved Ramirez a brutal beating.

He sped up the count, but the man was beaten. I'll be surprised if they file a protest.

Agreed on all fronts. Ramirez was probably going to get KOed. Still, a faulty count is a faulty count. Let's keep the votes coming.

Anyway, he was still wobbly by 9. That's why the ref stopped it.

I thought the time was kept outside the ring and the ref just followed? Maybe he got behind and had to catch up? Fight was over anyhow.

I thought the ref kind of sped up the count at the end, but I think Ramirez was about to go. He was definitely hurt, and I didn't see him protest the stoppage. Still, it was a weird count.

the count was controversial, but the stoppage was not. would like to watch ramirez again tho. he does pack a wallop and had he held on, jabbed, and get on his bicycle, he would of given a great fight vs. gamboa. gamboa's a little terminator tho

    The count was ****ed up.

I think the ref just messed up in the heat of the moment. He wanted to see that the guy didnt continue so he did purposely count fast. The guy was obviously waiting to rise up before 10 and could have made it in time if he counted normal and also could have gotten up before 5 seconds if he wanted to but was taking a rest.

Technically the ref should have waved the fight off if he wanted it stopped at that point. That would be the right way to do it and I think he would have been justified to wave it off if he wanted to. In the heat of the moment he screwed the other guy over by counting too fast to stop the fight which he should have allowed him to fight on as he made the count.

I dont think it is a huge issue because I see the other guy getting KOed by Gamboa had he continued anyway.

Many boxers do, not to lose face, but on the tacit understanding with the ref that it's all over.
