He probably will get stopped in the not too distant future unless carefully matched. But he is also going to brutally KO plenty of people as well = a seriously entertaining offensive fighter.
I dont think its about how he is matched. I think he has the TALENT to be a p4p fighter. Its his lack of respect for the guy on the other side that will lead to him being knockedout. I dont even really think that his chin is that bad, its the way that he comes in face first as if the other guy cant hurt him that gets him dropped.
So I guess the mini Judah he did after the left hook landed wasnt being hurt???? Dont get mad because the Hypetrain is slowing down:yep
His recovery ability will be a big part of it, which so far, has appeared pretty good. His onslaughts after the KD were pretty breathtaking though, he certainly is an offensive beast.
He was knocked by an elbow. He wasn't hurt. His defense needs some work, yes, but the "knockdown" tonight doesn't warrant these "Gamboa's chin is ****, he's gonna get KTFO" threads.
I don't see what all the fuss is about, his chin isn't iron, but it certainly isn't glass. He has suffered 3KD's, the first was an obvious slip against Esteban De Jesus after there legs got tangled (Go watch the fight). The 2nd was against Jimenez, in which he was caught with a decent punch on the temple while he was off-balance and moving backwards. Afterwards his legs seemed fine and in fact I though he won the rest of the round, either way you can't say he was in serious trouble. The most recent KD against Ramirez was caused by an elbow, up untill then he was taking the shots well. Granted he was caught by a left hook a few seconds beforehand, but the fact his back leg was up in the air when he was hit made . He was certainly stunned by the elbow soon after the left hook, but he got up in a split second and again his legs weren't wobbly. Much like against Jimenez, I thought he responded well and won the rest of the round. In these 3 KD's he got up in under 2 seconds and never really looked like being stopped, when he did get dropped he usually comes back fighting more furiously then ever. Now Im not saying his chin and defence are of no concern, but I feel some people are really getting out of hand with this criticism.
Gamboa has a long way to go. Lucky his opponent was not very good. He might be good in the future, but time will tell.
I was much more impressed with Sergio Martinez, he stole the night!!! Angulo was impressive also, but not as much as Martinez.
I can't believe all the bs people can type in this forum. Probably because it is full of Europeans not happy that a South American is receiving all this attention. I'm in 3 different boxing forums and this is the only one where hate is so intense. In the other ones I see people praising the big qualities he showed in this fight and here all you can read is people saying he has a weak chin. So far, the only thing we can really say is that he needs to work on his defense a lot and that he doesn't have a great chin. Saying his chin is similar to Khan's is the most absurd thing ever, he takes a lot of punches and only been down twice for reasons that Jaco just stated. His chin looks OK to me, not very good, not very bad, if he works on his defense he will definately be a great boxing name. If he doesn't, he may have some problems vs the elite but so far we NEVER saw him really hurt. I don't care how many times he will get "arrogant flash KDd" because of the way he fights. The only conclusion we can come with right now is that he is in love with getting flash KDd and that he has extraordinary good recovering time.
Sergio Martinez was awesome tonight. Angulo was awesome. Gamboa, time will tell. He fought a nobody tonight. Most here like Antonio Margarito. Roberto Duran was the best lightweight champion ever!!!
Gamboa will be fine. Fighters get knocked down, it doesn't mean they were close to being Ko'd. Look at Tito, he was knocked down quite a bit (11 times i think) and was only KO'd once.
Let's not jump the gun here....DLH and even Margarito were both knocked down a few times when they were coming up and they both have great beards...has it ever dawned on any of you that maybe this guy will learn from his mistakes? It is possible you knowatsch
You probably said the same thing about Amir Khan. Waddaya gonna say when Gamboa gets starched?? :huh Oh, let me guess, maybe what some of you always say when some glass jawed fighter gets laid out - "that punch woulda KOd anybody." :rofl No, only a fighter with a WEAK chin. That's who gets starched. GLASS JAWS!! GRADE A CHINA CHINS!!! If you have a solid chin, you don't get starched. PERIOD!
