Is funny that you say irrelevant and then support my point. Thats exactly what I mean. People gets blinded when they see a boxer with only a few fights look so good. They don't understand this guy has been boxing every single day for the last 15 years. Right now is has been facing guy's with not even half his experience and preparation. I mean the guy can become a star. But its too early to say. We also have to see how is he going to behave once he have some money in his pockets. Sometimes that changes peopl'e's behavior. Hopefully this won't be one of those cases. LEt me tell you something. When you are in the cuban boxing team, boxing is ALL YOU DO. Now compare this with a "professional" boxer like Carlos "INDIO" Quintana who up to his fight against Cotto he was working everyday at a gas station beside his boxing job. Finally now he has his own bussiness.
He has excellent potential, but he'll never be as good as Roy Jones, you can tell from his style as it is. Another thing, the guy's 26 years old, his lightning speed and reflexes will likely be deteriorating in around 5 years.
From what I've seen of Gamboa I'm not that impressed at all. He's been beating up tomato cans, and he looks sloppy as hell doing it -- keeping his hands by his weist, throwing wild punches and flurries. I think a lot of people here are jumping on the bandwagon way too quickly.
If this guy already has 20 years experience in boxing, why is he fighting C-E level fighters to gain further experience? Simple answer, amateur experience is different from pro experience. In an amateur fight ive no doubt Gamboa beats Pac, in the pro's Pac takes him out inside the 1st round. "LEt me tell you something. When you are in the cuban boxing team, boxing is ALL YOU DO" Let me rephrase that to: "LEt me tell you something. When you are in the cuban boxing team, AMATEUR boxing is ALL YOU DO" The fact that their only throwing him in there against E-C level fighters proves my point that even his management thinks his amateur experience simply isnt enough, else he would have fought for a word title by his 4th fight. Heck didnt some gold medalist fight George Foreman on his first fight and get KO'd on the 1st round?
A LITTLE Overrated? Seems Amsterdam's found a new flavor of the month to over hype. I like that he's facing some stiff comp. He looks good, but it MAY bite him in the ass if he bites off more then he can chew. Would not put him in with Soto, Guzman, or Pac for while. At least a couple years.
