with only 9 pro fights he was a main event at an HBO card. There was a lot of people watching, i don't know about the numbers but from what i see as i was watching there were a lot of people. Michael buffer was already the one doing the introductions. How many fighters under 10 fights get this kind of exposure?

And about the fight, i was impressed even though with the KD. I had no problem with that. Now that he's getting a new trainer, it was just the right thing imo, i wouldn't want such skills get to waste. Floyd Sr or nacho would teach him to put those hands up

I like his style. Its so fluid and natural. The way he slips punches and changes angles, without giving any hint of evading his opponent. When you watch him, you start to understand why boxing is called a sweet science. I wish every boxer fought like him. Boxing would be beautiful

..........but then you see ugly ass **** like what Mayweather or Hopkins do and then you understand why this sport is losing viewership, to the likes of MMA or ******ed wrestling.

Maybe. But while he's up and kicking, you can't help but to appreciate his punching skill, footwork and athelticism. The latter two are especially mesmerizing. In fact, in terms of natural ability, a guy like Calzaghe is a poor man's Gamboa.

He certainly is no future ATG like the ESB experts make him out to be. Way over hyped on ESB. But, hes fun to watch he's got amazing skills to go with the speed.
He will loose the day he steps in with a guy that can time with a little bit skills, speed and combination punching.

yea he is. Already headlining cards on HBO BAD and even though he was not as impressive as expected he still dominated Jimenez and if anything having a live opponent in there made for an even more exciting fight and a great show.

He should take on 1 or 2 more opponents of the Jimenez caliber before moving up in class. He might not headline HBO BAD with them but in the long run it will be beneficial

Also getting knocked down has stirred up some controversy and polarized fans on Gamboa with some people saying he is the truth and other saying he is overrated. That kind of stuff always brings in bigger ratings

hes got a great chance to become champ b/c all of the best fighters at his division have left. Is there anyone who honestly thinks that the same gamboa that got knocked down by Darling Jimenez could have beaten Morales, Barrera and Pac at his prime? NO WAY. Gamboa is a lot of fun to watch but he is not on the same level as those guys. someone should tell him to put down the RJJ videos and watch some mexicans

is there anyone who honestly really thinks that Gamboa in his 10th pro fight is as good as he will be in his 20th?

I certainly would not pit him against any of top fighters in the division until he learns how deal with counter punches. He looks like he hasn't fully transitioned from his amateur style.

If his current trainer doesn't see this flaw then Gamboa definitely needs to start shopping around for someone soon. I'd hate to see a kid with this much talent get derailed by a classic counterpuncher.

His coach has been fired in the meantime. Gamboa still has to learn one or two things in the paid ring, but he is the complete package IMO.
He has a proven track record at the amateurs, an olympic gold medalist,an outstanding amateur.
He has all the neccesary tools to be a top dog.
Up to now he has been matched bloody toughly-probably too toughly.I wouldnt mind to see him take on some limited clubfighters and decent journeymen before he fights for a mayor title. No need to rush him into big fights. He is still totally unknown outside the circle of us hardcore fans.
He needs better name recognition before fighting his truly dangerous rivals out there.
As for his coach I very much hope that his promoter Oener is looking for an elderly trainer who stands behind Gamboa's back with a huge whip in his hands.Like most of his compatriots Gamboa needs a drill seargent and no buddy type or softie in his corner.

he is the best prospect as of now..problem is, they want to get him in the spotlight too soon...he may not be able to handle it. He is so open to counter-punches, maybe because of his confidence. He needs to adjust some more.

i was impressed with saturday night.

    he only lost 2 rds.

    the knockdown was a flash.

    he boxed great i thought.

i'm convinced he'd win a title at 130 as soon as he's pitched in.

Agreed. I too think he's being rushed a bit. He's got all the tools: speed, coordination, strength, athleticism and confidence.

He's at a juncture where if they shove him into a fight with a savvy counterpuncher he might not get away with some of his risky offense. Sometimes these guys with extensive amateur backgrounds don't transition to the pro style but I see enough ability that with just a little tinkering he'll do well. He might also benefit from some sparring sessions with some skilled opposition. That will open his eyes a bit and make him see what his flaws are without setting him back career-wise.
