ohh I feel you dude. I don't think people think there's a decline in talent in boxing because other nations are catching up. I believe its because the reasons given above. Not to say that others may feel differently. Now I do believe the heaveyweight division has dropped immensly but thats about it. Other divisions may have dropped somewhat but its minimal if you ask me. Also the reason I feel other nations (esp euro) nations get discredited is because after you get by the top couple of fighters the talent drops ALOT. For instance I feel if someone like Zab Judah fought in the UK he would have had a much better career. If you feel that euro boxers dont get any credit your very very wrong. Eubank, Benn, Lewis, Jirov, Hamed, DM, Joe C (starting to), Klits (getting there) and many others are very respected by Americans. But when you have fighters like Zsolt Erdie that don't fight ANYBODY and has a padded record then there's not gonna be any respect rightfully so. Americans are typically very open minded when it comes to talent. Look no further than Manny Pac, Cotto, many Mexican/Puerto Rican fighters are loved by Americans. (I consider an American fighter from the U.S. eventhough Mexico is part of North America) Gamboa's getting a ton of respect in here and he's Cuban, Miranda is popular also. I'm sure you see what i'm saying.
Not meaning cocky as in personality wise, who knows might be the nicest guy on earth. I mean in the boxing ring, hands down, alot of flash ala (Jones Jr). Which don't bother me one bit hell if I had that talent and could get away with it then I would do the exact same thing. It can backfire on you sometimes though.
agreed...... I think Pavlik is to much 1-2 for Hagler, also Pavlik can be hurt and Hagler won't be hurt unless Pavlik shoots a cannon at his chin. I would love to see Prime Hagler vs Prime Bhops. I can't stand Hops but I think this is a winnable fight for hops style wise.
Oh and the direct previous WW division with Forrest, Mosely, Quartey, DLH, Tito was a very good division. Not like the 80's, but much better than the one now.
Well now the division is Mayweather(suppose), Aged Mosely, Cotto, Margarito, Quintana.... That list doesn't compare at all to the previous, every fighter I named in the previous was A to A+ class.
Quartey never really did a whole lot in WW he pretty much beat who he was supposed to beat but lost against upper tier guys (Hoya, Vargas) His biggest win was Carr. Forrests name to fame came off his 2 wins against Mosley right before 2 losses to a limited Mayorga. Tito very solid WW, Hoya Prime Solid, Mosley was only 7-3 as a WW (losses against Forrest x 2, Cotto and a win over Hoya) There is a ton of talent in the current WW division and there all still very young (except Mosley) and possibly FMJ. Some of these guys have a tremendous amount of talent and there just hitting there primes, Also you have some young prospects coming up to mainly Berto that I hope does well. To early to compare generations I think
Agreed, let's not forget people hyping jeff lacy , and look what calzaghe did to him, people these days hype new upcoming boxers too much. gamboa is a good fighter no doubt, but he won't make it far, believe that.
My only gripe with Gamboa is that he doesn't have a big punch and that he's careless with his defense -- other than that, he's got plenty going for him.
