Gamboa will not be defeating the likes of Linares, Juan Manuel Marquez, and Manny Pacquia as easily as he's been beating these journeyman. Let's not get ahead of ourselves kids. Gamboa is a fantastic talent, but he has only had 9 professional fights, and the professional game is a complete contrast to the ameuteur game. Let's wait for Gamboa to solidify himself as contender in his respective division with a few more wins before we start calling him an All time great or anything other than a great talent.
If you can't easily call Hearns/Floyd, you simply can't analyze fighters. That's one of the easiest matchups to call. What on earth could Floyd do against a much bigger, more powerful fighter with a brilliant jab, straight right, height and reach advantage, and a fighter who happens to be almost impossible to outbox from 147 to 154? Floyd does not have it in his game to stop him or fight like Leonard did, he'd be on the bicycle all night, and would be stopped in the mid to late rounds.
How? A shot Oscar Larios gave Linares all he could handle until Linares rightfully broke him down. I don't get the hype on Linares.
You really think Larios gave him all he could handle? I had Linares winning the fight easy. All the tools are there for Gamboa, he has p4p #1 potential. I have only seen him fight twice but these were experienced fighters. Only C level but Gamboa toyed with them and he is less than 10 fights into his carrer.
Well my point is that lesser overhyped prospects show a measure of struggle against the level of guys Gamboa's fought now, dropping a couple of rounds maybe... Abner Mares has dropped some rounds to C levels for example. Nonito Donaire dropped rounds to C levels.... Gamboa's played with these guys like an already established P4P'er would play with him, that's why he's quite different.
o my bad. Anyway I still think this is a tough fight for Gamboa which probably will take him the distance.
well if he does you can always throw that in amsterdams face lol joking. Just like amsterdam said some time ago, even if he loses he will come back due to his skill and he is young. I see a difference between people on this site. There are the analysists who will wait till someon is a sure thing and then proclaim him to be the best ('playing it safe' as I would like to call it), and then there are those who will see something in a fighter way before anyone else does, and have the vision to back him claiming he will be the champ before he gets tested. The nice thing about this forum is that we can see that difference between posters. With all that being said - gamboa is a 'sure thing' and if you were wise you would bet for him no matter who he fought. And he does beat guzman in a thriller. He would own pac too in my opinion, and pac is my favorite fighter. (soon to be replaced by gamboa once he takes over, pac is just getting a little too old and battle torn).
Yeah hes not normal, he's Gamboa and your going a bit far with the Roy Jones talk, we all know there is only one Roy Jones
Floyd at 130 is closer to what Leonard was at 147lbs. To beat Hearns you need great defense and offense. Whilst Mayweather is an incredibly good defensive fighter, he lacks the offence needed to stop someone like Hearns coming at him. To put it simply: What does Mayweather have to stop Hearns pressuring him all night? Nothing. I don't think any pure defensive fighter beats Hearns around his prime weightclass. That includes Locche, Whitaker, Benitez or Wright. Hearns was an offensive machine. He threw punches from great angles, had hand speed, was great to the body and could obviously hit like a truck. You can't move from him all night (Whitaker) you can't block him all night (Wright) and Mayweather's combination of footwork and guard would be nullified by the terrific onslaught from Hearns. If Floyd was the same fighter at 147lbs as he was at 130lbs, I think he could beat Hearns. However, he is currently too defensive minded to beat a prime Hearns.
I thought Linares almost won every round. I can't remember how I scored it now, but I'm guessing maybe three rounds for Larios? It wasn't close, anyway.
Even at 130, he was not the same as Leonard because he wouldn't fight a pressure fight against a bigger fighter with more firepower. Floyd doesn't have the ability nor the heart to fight that type of fight. He wouldn't walk into his punches looking to land a big shot under any circumstance the way Leonard did. Flopyd is all about technique, and that is a reason he'd never have taken this fight under any circumstances, because nothing in his game could give him the win.
yea i remember that fight was a walk in the park for Linares. Whoever saw it otherwise needs to get his eyes checked.
Gamboa will have to take the full 12 rounds just to beat a shot but gamed and experienced Larios, I am so sure of that. Linares showed there why he can be a threat to anyone at 126 and 130.
