He was also never stopped in the Amateurs. The only time he failed to go the distance was when the fight was stopped due to injury (His Eyelid was split open).
Mayweather doesn't slug with anyone like seriously, he would pot shot Hagler to a decision. I disagree, history has been kind to those fighters. As history should be, but to say that they can beat today's fighters is silly, the diets, and work regimens of today's fighters are superior as is their speed.
Thing is, Hearns was one of the best long range fighters of all time, and he had power to back it up, so you wouldn't be walking through his shots unless you were a granite chinned MW like Hagler. He had the jab, the straight right, the left hook to the body, etc all backing him up if you tried to get within range, which was hard enough giving his height and reach for a WW. Floyd has no possible way of winning that fight, he's not even a natural WW.
Potshot Hagler to a decision? What the ****? Are you serious? How the **** is he going to potshot Hagler to a decision when Hagler's right jab nullifies his quick jumps to get into range? How could he deal with Hagler's pressure and power? How could he outbox Hagler? The little **** has never fought above 150.
The small WW Mayweather would pot shot Hagler to a Decision when he had massive trouble with Castillo at 135 pounds? You're acting as though the 80's are in fact the 20's, when what you said would be true, but nothing has changed since the 80's really, you're getting out of hand. Guys of today are faster than Leonard and Hearns? They're faster than Hector Camacho? honeslty with those kind of fights, and his style with his hands at his waist and he is literally standing right in front of you to hit u because he is short and has short arms. There is no way, absolutely no way that he has a glass chin. If anything he more than likely has an absolute iron chin!
I've watched a lot of the old fights, its not that I don't appreciate them, I just don't think you can compare them to today's fighters. I really do believe that everyone does this with everything we give more appreciation to something once its gone, it'll be the same with the crop of fighters we have now.
You're really making a bad showing for yourself in the midst of true boxing fans here. Tyson was not a pure boxer, he was a technical puncher/swarmer. Which of the guys in today's HW division are great?
OK, that doesn't mean that fighters of previous generations were primitive, that's like saying Roy Jones was primitive in the early 90's to a fighter like Gamboa today just because he fought 15 years ago. If you're talking about fighters from the 20's and prior being primitive, I understand, but the 80's? That is absolute madness.
Damn, Canadianfan is getting his ass kicked left and right. lol Mayweather potshotting Hagler to a decision. Thanks, I need a new signature. :good
So what you're saying is that a close, safety-first fight against an old Oscar De La Hoya equates to him beating Marvin Hagler at 160? Get your facts straight, he weighed in at 150 and by his own admission, weighed 148 on fight night.
I don't like the HW division at all right now, but would Lennox Lewis wash the floor with Tyson as far as boxing skill goes? Absolutely!
