I don't think that Gamboa is going to be elite, he showed that last night. He shouldve been agressive with the bum he was fighting and got him out of there. That guy has been stopped before and it seems like he shouldve been stopped against Gamboa.

I noticed one thing about Gamboa outside of his defensive flaws, that he has to get motivated to turn up the intensity ... that usually comes from him getting rocked or knocked down.

When he's not aggressively pursued then he's just a sitting duck ... I didn't like that about him. He lowers his skills and fights to the level of his opponent.

He also seemed to get wild and flustered when he seen that the guy he was fight was a counter puncher.

The stoppage was suspect ... in the case of the fight last night - that guys corner shouldve stopped the fight and not the ref, because although he was losing, he was never at the point where he wasn't competetive.

    Terrible stoppage !!

Gamboa got a title, but at the expense of being exposed.

    He's not a ****ing bum.

I am so sick of people calling fighters bums, would a bum knock out Caballero cold in 3 rounds?

    ****ing douche.

Ive always said this.. Gamboa isn't what he seems to be.. Just wait until he's matched up with a boxer puncher with decent countering punching ability and he's going down face first. Donaire/Darchinyan style.

    When did Gamboa knockout Caballero?

I never said he was a bum, I just said that he's not meeting up with the hype and its going to show against an elite opponent.

If he fought someone like Juanma Lopez, then he's as good as toast.

Jesus christ, I'm talking about you calling Rojas a bum.

And look I'm a JuanMa fan, but I'm sick of this aswell. Lopez has a very good win over De Leon, but he's knocked out a bunch of no heart guys in his latest defences.

He has the potential to be a superstar, but I wish people would let him fight somebody competitive, like Caballero, before proclaiming him an ATG and that he'd destroy Vazquez, Marquez etc.

In the same way I wish people would let Gamboa get on with it and continue to improve, instead of proclaiming him a knock out waiting for happen.

Maybe you have a point with most you say. However to your last sentence I'd like to say: please shut the hell up man. Exposed??!!:huh Did Gamboa got knocked out? Did Gamboa has problems with him?
My eyes don't lie and Gamboa still has 3877462 times the talent as your man Valero.

yea, i wasnt as impressed as many of the posters on here seem to be. i think a good counterpuncher with some pop could ruin his day. he is too in love with his skill which has been enough against limited opposition. i cant think of any fighters who have become the man with as many holes in their game as gamboa has.

Gamboa didn't show last night that he could fight inside, but he showed patience in the end when he used his speed to break the other guy down. Gamboa was in with a dangerous counter puncher who had power early, but was slowed by Gamboa. The stoppage was legit because old boy couldn't se the punches coming. He lost steam on his shots, and was going to receive a bad beating in the end. Gamboa is not ready for John in his next fight. Beating John is an up hill battle right now. Gamboa did what he had to so to win a world title.

I love JuanMa Lopez.....but this consistent comparison of the two is butt **** absurd. Seriously guys neither is all that proven and neither one is without their flaws.

hes was just messing with the guy last night. Gamboa is the real deal. I'll tell you what, he'll beat the lving crap out of Juraez and Levanuo. You saying he anit living up to the hype but If you lived in Vegas I bet you wouldnt bet me a $1000 that Rocky or Leavnuo would beat Gamboa. him those 2 and John are the 3 best right now. so I guess hes already a top 4 guy at the weight class with only 2 years of pro boxing. PPL tend to forget that he just got this new trainer, I saw alot of improvment last night. first time I ever saw him keep his hands up. thats the only thing he needs to work on. Like I said none of you guys are gonaa take sry ass Rocky over Gamboa and hes 3rd in the division right now. so what does that say?

Like I said before, as Gamboa steps up in competition he'll become more refined and less wild. He's wild because he doesn't respect his opposition, if you listen to him talk you can tell it.

When he fights better opposition, he'll show more pro skills.

he is not elite yet. And he's close to hitting 30. But a great trainer can still make him elite.

That's a dangerous game to play. That is how a lot of fighters get upset. Habits are most times hard to break. He shouldn't wait until he faces better opposition before he shows pro skills. It should be a part of him that always shows, no matter who the opponent is.
