I agree with fitzgerald, Gamboa was not impressive at all against a guy he should have taken out of there in 6. His power seems to be non-existant with quality people, sort of like Cintron's power proved to be. His chin is shakey, very shakey. His defense is subpar and he abandons it at times to go head hunting.

I see nothing about him that makes him a marginally above gatekeeper fighter in 2 years.

You have to remember he's a battle tested amateur. He's seen and fought all sorts of opponents of all shapes and sizes and more often than not, he's left the winner.

Guys like him don't see a fighter in the mirror, they see an untouchable gladiator. Until someone knocks him off that gigantic pedestal, he'll continue to act this way. Right or wrong, it's his swagger.

As you stated he was a battle tested amatuer. He is not a battle tested professional, although he does have all the tools. The only point I was making is that he can't make the same mistakes that he made as an amatuer on the pro level. These guys study film and they wait for oppurtunities(mistakes) to present themselves and they capitalize on them. Thats all. Don't get me wrong, he is a good fighter with a bright future. He just needs to break a few habits.

You're a ****ing moron. Gamboa is the perhaps the most physically gifted fighter I've seen since a young Zab Judah and Roy Jones before him. Incredible reflexes, quickness, handspeed and power....his physical attributes alone and amateur pedigree will make him a threat to anyone from 126-135. Does he have defensive liabilities, yes he does, but I think the knockdowns he's suffered have been attributed to him being over aggressive and being caught off balance. The man he fought last night was not a bum by any means, and keep in mind you ****ing ****** that the reason Gambao was unable to connect as much as he normally does is he was fighting a veteran southpaw with a sneaky defense. Look, if Gamboa can learn to control his agression, deidicate more punches to the body and fight a more disciplined fight, the sky is the limit for this kid. To say that Gamboa doesn't have the potential to be elite and is not already on the fringes of such greatness is pure idiocy. Even a blind man can see that this kid is the goods. In the mean time, none can deny how exciting he is to watch so stop ****ing hating and give the man props for a great win last night. :patsch

gamboa suffers, very clearly, from the plague that once served to derail the careers of guys, recently, like francisco bojado, americo santos...just because there is a lot of hype, a lot of expectation, a lot of talk...that doesn't mean the kid is either world class or a hoax if he falls a little to the right or left of the center path to a world title.

gamboa is a terrific puncher with excellent speed in his hands, decent speed on his feet, great boxing instincts and a good heart that supplements his breakable chin. he needs to work on his balance, first and foremost, which will facilitate a better defensive posture and learning to cover up more effectively when he throws. he needs to be more patient and a bit more even in his waves of attack. but he is developing, more with each matchup...sometimes it is less obvious because of the style matchup, but the kid is coming along.

in this climate of undefeated or cast aside boxing tempers, we need to just let the kids take their damn lumps, work it out, breathe, take the time to become world class fighters...or they never will. hype almost never serves a learning curve that produces excellent fighters...boxing history demonstrates that. but, i think, we should all agree, it is way, way too early to pass judgment on gamboa's quality as a fighter.

I'm a big Gamboa fan, but even if he isn't the one out of the Cubans to be a truly tremendous and impressive fighter, we still have Guillermo Rigondeux, Luid Garcia, and countless others to enjoy!

He fought a tough top 10 fighter whos only chance to win was if Gamboa got agressive and got caught..... The only knock on the guy is that he gets to wild and gets caught and he didnt to that.

Plus Rojas was arkward and was good at slipping punches.

Amen brother .... many people are just very unhappy with their pathetic lives and need to come to an online forum and direct negativity to boxers who don't really deserve it. People really like to proclaim how bad someone is way too often on here.

Gamboa showed a lot of the same flaws last night that he usually does... but i'm not going to clown on him too much after this one. He was in there with an overmatched guy who hardly fought back, so a win versus a guy like that is a win. Not too much to criticize one way or the other.

the speed difference in last nights fight was so obvious.

The guy was up 8 rounds to 0. Ref mercifully stopped the fight.

Gamboa owns a very weak title right now. I hope he fights more bums before taking on any real comers. And I doubt there are any real comers right now that would move up to fight him.

Why do people keep calling Rojas a bum. He fought a tough fight against Chris John in 2007 who is considered the class of the featherwieght and maybe the class of super featherweight. Gamboa shut him out, bloodied him up and the fight was stopped. Jeez. Tough crowd.

I liked what I saw from Gamboa last night; he wasn't wild and out of control. His hands were up and not down by his ankles like that they always were.
