Gamboa has been heavily criticized for being overly aggressive and now your criticizing him for not being aggressive enough. This was a title fight and I'm sure Team Gamboa wanted to make a statement but also fight a disciplined fight. Let's see how he fares against an elite fighter such as John before throwing him under the bus.
:good:good:good Another thing I've noticed is that a lot of Gamboa haters are pro-Valero, I think it's because Gamboa is what they think Valero SHOULD be and they're jealous; dynamite power in both fists, unbelievable handspeed, the fact that Gamboa has fought higher opposition than Valero has already after what, 15 fights, is brushed aside to mean nothing when he's been down a couple of times, and he is branched under a 'KTFO waiting to happen' even though Valero went down agaisnt Mosquera at a lower weight and has the same habit of holding his hands low as does Gamboa. Oh, well, we'll see who gets 'exposed' first. Either way, they are both exciting fighters who always promise a good fight, shame peole can't enjoy both fighters. I will watch both of their next fights, pretty much guaranteed fireworks.
No one there fits the bill at the moment. He'll continue to rack up wins. But when the day comes and he faces one he'll have hell.
you could say that about a lot of fighters, even Floyd would have problems with a guy with a good jab and handspeed.
I agree but I watching that fight last night and saying to myself you could control this guy with a good jab and handspeed. All of Gamboa's fights that I've seen I never have seen him face someone with a good jab. PBF wold have problems but his defense and countering ability are much better than Gamboa.
Linares aint nothing special ,Gamboa would make him look like a bum. that would be a mismatch guys like Soto,John or Juanma are the only guys around that can beat Gamboa.
Linares would need to grow a pair for this fight to happen, this isnt a shot Larios we´re talking about.Gamboa´s the truth.
Gamboa could of finished Rojas early. I don't know what he was thinking. I know his promoter Ahmet Oner wasn't pleased with him keeping his hands down frequently. I can only think he was just getting in some rounds for conditioning and experience. Rojas hit Gamboa directly on the chin with some nice shots a few times. Gamboa wasn't fazed at all. Gamboa just finished his 15th pro fight and won his first world title in that short span. Believe it or not he is elite and will only get better as he faces tougher competition.
Honestly, I rate Valero much higher than Linares. Linares has decent fundementals, but little more. Feather fisted as well, though he's not at all bad. Not on Gamboa's level at all though, and a shame for the fighter that he's a 'two-weight champ' as he can take no real satisfaction from it. He has a shot Larios on his resume and that's it. Seriously, Gamboa would make quick work of him. Robert Guerrero or Soto at 130 would give him the best fight. At 126, Chris John or any of the Elite Super-Bantams making a jump north (maybe not Vasquez or Marquez as they may be too battleworn but Caba or JuanMa) might give him a test. Hell, Gamboa vs. Luevano would be intriguing, and you can't bet against Luevano who has solid fundementals and experience at the top level. Don't think he'd have the beating of Gamboa though. Trust me, a year down the line JuanMa vs. Gamboa will be huge, and it'd be genuinely 50-50. For now, look to Gamboa to face another decent contender before fighting the winner of John-Juarez 2.
Sounds like kryptonite to many a fighter to be honest. Might as well say, 'put Gamboa up against someone who he cannot hurt and can knock him out with a single punch and let's see how he gets on'. Out of the guys going at the moment, he would need to go to 135 to be a serious underdog, let's be honest.
