John would be a tough fight for Gamboa but I think Gamboa would be able to pull through with a late stoppage. Rocky Juarez was landing good shots on John and I don't believe he's as fast as Gamboa or has Gamboa's punching power. Gamboa vs John and Caballero vs Lopez makes perfect sense but if they are trying to build this fight up and keep them undefeated/champions, the Caballero-Lopez fight is a bit riskier fight, though I'm pretty sure Lopez can pull through.

He had the flu a week before the first fight and almost cancelled. The second time he was healthy.

Eventually the WBA will make John fight Gamboa, although I suspect that when that time comes, Arum will just have Gamboa drop his title and fight Lopez instead. Just a hunch.

I found it. He got sick before the second fight. Again, maybe he hadn't fully recovered. I do think he's on the slide though.

Chris John out of Juarez rematch due to blood issue

According to Dan rafael of espn.com, WBA Featherweight champion Chris John is out of Saturday night’s rematch with Rocky Juarez due to a fainting spell that was caused by a blood issue.

“He is out. He has something with the blood that diminishes his capacity as an athlete,” said John’s advisor Sampson Lewkowicz. “I don’t know exactly what it is but he is feeling ill. He went to the doctor and he had a check up and he had a blood test, and something is wrong. I don’t know exactly what it is but the doctor said he can’t train or exercise. He was training, but was feeling fatigued and went to the doctor.”
“He will stay in the States until we get a full and comprehensive treatment,” Lewkowicz said. “It’s a blow for all of us. I hope he will feel better, but he won’t be fighting.”
“This is nothing like hepatitis or HIV or anything,” Lewkowicz said. “It’s something like anemia, like he’s missing oxygen in the blood. When he did his blood test two weeks ago, he was fine. He took this one because he felt ill and they found out something was wrong.”
“I just know Chris John is out and they are looking at some possible replacements,” Said Golden Boy’s Richard Schaefer, who is promoting the card which is headlined by Victor Ortiz taking on Marcos Maidana, referring to Golden Boy matchmakers Eric Gomez and Robert Diaz. “Our goal is to keep Rocky on the show and have him fight.”

Give John his due. He is undefeated and the champion. Sure he is getting a little shop-worn but don't say that you "know" he will lose to Gamboa. It seems probable but the man deserves credit.

too bad on john. he is a boxing star back in his home country and i hope he recover's well. there's no use to continue to fight if you have problems like this.

I'm not sold on Gamboa just yet though he is fast and can hit. John is the way better boxer but has been wobbled before and like previous mentioned has alot of miles. Gamboa can win but I honestly find it a close call.

people saying that John's style is all wrong for Gamboa got it backwards i think. John would have real problems with the speed and angles of gamboa.

chris john is underrated. but the fact that CJ is featherfisted, gamboa would be more than willing to get inside with him and trade and i don't think he'll slip all of his punches, and when does get hit, remember what happened to him when juarez landed flush in the dying seconds of the rematch. spaghetti legs baby!

And Gamboa is Top Rank. Did you guys realized it's a GBP vs. Top Rank fight?

After the PAC-Floyd fiasco, I think it's difficult right now to arrange a Top Rank vs. GBP fight.

nah floyd is not involved so there would be no *****-footing here even if it's GBP-TR.
