Currently being negotiated apparently, Top Rank and Golden Boy are discussing a possible September 10th fight on HBO, if it does wind up happening, would be the first co-promotion between the companies in years.

    According to Arum:

Gamboa's got the September 10th HBO date set, he's just looking for an opponent to be confirmed.

Jhonny Gonzalez said he was willing to take the fight:

However, Gonzalez then proceeded to turn down a six-figure payday, in favour of fighting no-hoper Tomas Villa on the Williams-Lara card. Where does this leave Ponce, you might ask? Still waiting for the chance. Mark Hernandez(Ponce's manager) says they are good to go for him to face Gamboa and are waiting for him to come to them. Ponce's ready by the looks of things, what're they waiting for?

Good for boxing to have top rank and Golden boy working together again. The fight itself should be fairly simple win for Gamboa though.

Must confess im relatively inexperienced with the lower weights but a better relationship between the two can only be good for the sport.

I like Ponce. He's getting stopped in this one though.

He'd do better than he did against Juanma I think. Obviously, that's not a particularly insurmountable feat, but I have a feeling his refinement over the last couple of years will ensure that he'll at least last until the middle rounds. Kind of like the Salido fight, only Gamboa will be faced with a weaker chin.

Love Gamboa, but always root for Ponce de leon.

But Gamboa should talk it, i'd say within 6.

Gamboa is beginning to **** me off only fighting twice a year. Good fight though. Gamboa TKO mid-late rounds.

How so? I think, if anything, he's improved to quite a decent degree.

Will be a good fight, can't expect De Leon to get blown away as easily as Lopez did, he's tightened things up a good deal since then and that was a bit of a freak result I feel. He's going to struggle to pin down Gamboa though, without taking a barrage of combinations.

i think he has lost the hunger and explosiveness he once had, he may have tightened up a bit and boxing a bit more conventionally but the spark is just not there imo.
