OK, I am not exactly going to shed any new light to the peeps in here who actually know what's up but I'm going to vent anyway.

Rios-Gamboa was a match made in heaven for Top Rank as it served two purposes:

    1. Making a disgruntled fighter (Gamboa) go up in two weightclasses to fight a hard hitting monster and get annihilated.

    2. Pumping Rios up for a big fight against Marquez and then possibly Pacquiao

Regardless of what happened on Saturday, Gamboa had no business fighting Rios and he either came to his senses or received sound advice to back out of the fight. From all accounts, Gamboa is/was unhappy with his entire promotional situation and wanted to get out. Both promoters were likely happy to serve him up knowing this.

Rios vs Marquez was also the perfect fight for Top Rank. If Marquez wins, hopefully he went through another war before fighting Pacquiao later in the year and if Rios wins, we have a loyal, young hungry lion facing Pacquiao in a superfight. A complete win-win and both options present Pacquiao with a credible, in-house opponent.

Instead, Top Rank underestimated Abril and we now have Marquez without a credible opponent for July and Rios' reputation as a killer tarnished. Gamboa is still without a fight and facing various legal issues. I'd be shocked to see him in the ring again this year.

The point - All of this cake baking from Top Rank is to protect their interests and avoid having to make fights with Golden Boy. Luckily for us, this plan is not working and hopefully the trend continues as boxing as a whole will be better off for it. Boxing promoters need to work together and make the best fights possible and let the megafights develop organically.

Not only did thier plan fail, it wouldn't have worked if it had gone to plan. Gamboa would have beaten Rios easily and been declaired a new p4p great

Unfortunately this won't change anything with Top Rank. Arum has already stated that Marquez will next fight Rios, Gesta or Alvarado.

One lesson TR learned the hard way:
you cant put in front of Rios somebody who can box and its well conditioned.
Acosta could box but he cant keep the pace for more than 6-7 rds,the first rds he was taking Rios to school.
To give Rios credit, he's extremely tough, he walks thru all those punches in order to keep the pressure going.
Gamboa is faster and more accurate than Abril, the only problem would have been his size and how he carries his power to 135.Also how his conditioning will work at 135.
But Gamboa would have put a clinic on emaciate Rios saturday night, hit him with hard punches, swollen his face and shut his eyes.Rios was sloppy, slow and ordinary last saturday.
But, if he moves to 140 and faces Alvarado next, then you'll see the old Rios, fighting someone who stands in front of him trading bombs. And mexicans will be happy again.

I don't think he has the chin nor discipline to beat Rios over 12 but I guess we'll never know.

On one hand I feel sorry for the Cubans because they seem to be ill equipped to handle capitalism, but I'm afraid Gamboa is going from bad to worse in this instance. I gotta believe Arum and company knows contract law inside out. You dislike Arum? Ohner is 10 times worse. Straight up mob connections and taking bullets. Sadly these Cubans need a court appointed guardian until they know how to handle themselves in our legal/financial system but that isn't going to happen.

I don't know if Gamboa has a chin problem as much as a balance issue. The times I've seen him knocked down it was balance.

Alvarado vs Rios is a good fight but neither guy are worth mentioning alongside anyone that's elite ala Marquez/Pac, Gesta is even worse!! That bum will lose first time he steps up the competition level. It's a joke who top rank are trying to groom as inhouse opponents for their big dogs, pathetic mismatch ****.

They have Kelly Pavlik as the number 2 SMW in the US of A based on his destruction of his last two opponents too.
