According to the latest Ring Magazine, Gamboa sold his Olympic 2004 gold medal for $1500 so he can give his daughter a birthday party. Gamboa goes on to complain about how Cuban boxers get such measly rewards for their extraordinary sacrifice for their countries, which is hard to argue with. Certainly, they earn more here than they would at home.
IMO that is very noble of him. Some people treat these stupid medals like idols. There is nothing wrong with selling them, especially for food if that the need may be.
:rofl I bet him and Uncle Bob had some great memories "wrestling" Anyways Gamboa is a great man and a great father for doing what he did im now a Gamboa fan.
Mate if put in the same situation i would happily sell my medal. When its all said and done your medals, belts etc end up collecting dust in the trophy cabinet. Its the memories that last forever. Not the possessions.
The medal is a GREAT achievement, but the fighter is beyond the medal and his daughter gives him confidence in the ring...GO GAMBOA!
Ive heard but havent got to see him yet. Walked in late the other night only to hear Joe T talk about his 1st round KO win. I ****ing miss everything :fire
you are such a great guy...if I was around, Id gladly give you a pat on the back. You're such a good guy, that you've lost all sense of humour on the subject.
I love it to one of my all time favorite nights Barrera made me a fan for life shutting up Naz. I agree with you before id gladly give up my Gold Medal for my Daughter. Nothing in life is more important or more vaulable then the ones you love your parents, children, dearest freinds.
