I have to be honest, I don't even see them being in the same league as professionals and view this as something of a mismatch. Abril has a good chin and is slick enough to roll with even lightning-fast punches, but he's still going to get lit up here by a very quick accurate and hard puncher and it might be a chore for him to so much as see the final bell. (although my guess is that he would, albeit not without some scares)

I've followed Abril for years, longer than most people outside of the Cuban fanbase considering he wasn't really known at all before upsetting Rios, saw him live on a local card here against Hank Lundy and a few other times on TV before Rios, and have never been that impressed with him. Yeah, he's tricky and awkward to deal with and an intelligent fighter, but his style really turns me off and it never struck me as one that's going to do anything for him against true elites.

    Gamboa is a true elite.

I'd say Abril's ceiling is probably winning rematches (assuming he gets fair judging) with both Rios and Prescott. He doesn't beat anyone a level up from that, however. If that version of Acosta that he met wasn't ruined to utter ****, that one would have gone very differently. As it is, that stands as the best "name" win on his resume and will likely remain so.
