Fightnews is reporting that Celestino Caballero is taking a hometown defense of his WBA Super Bantamweight title, possibly a stay-busy affair before a fight with Yuriorkis Gamboa which is being negotiated now. Caballero has had some good wins and proclaims himself the king of the 122 division, but would be stepping up to Featherweight to challenge for Gamboa's WBA title. Intriguing fight.. I think Caballero becomes the first real good win on Gamboa's resume though... I just don't see him having any answers to Gamboa's speed and explosiveness. Full disclosure: I think Caballero is a long skinny joke and he fights like an amateur. He's too cocky for someone with such a rudimentary style and I wanna see him get KO'd almost as much as I wanna see someone wipe the floor with Floyd Jr. :good Discuss
Caballero isn't some chump who's gonna let Gamboa blitz him like he does everyone else and wilt under the pressure. His two loses were against good southpaws with awkward styles and Gamboa is neither of those things. Much closer fight than ytou think in my opinion.
All Caballero has are those long dangly arms and legs that make him tower over opponents in these small weight classes. I don't wanna sound like a fanboy but Gamboa is looking like a young RJJ, only smaller and scarier.
Tough fight for Caballero but I can't see why he can't use his height and experience to beat Gamboa. I predict a tough fight for both.
I like Gamboa pureley on the fact of his size , speed and power , i think he'll blow Caba away but you never know . Anyways i wanna see Caballero Lopez before Gamboa gets in the frame !!!!!!
I'll take Gamboa over Caballero anytime and perhaps over many others in his division. The way he fought in his last fight, was very impressive. He was compose something I saw he was lacking. The guy is a complete package now. Hopefully this fight gets made if not would we see the hundred threads that Gamboa is ducking
Caballero could be able to use his height, but not his ring experience, for Gamboa has much more than him.
Damn, looks like Gamboa and Arum don't want none of Mr. Dangles.... especially after how he looked against Yordan. I gotta say, Caballero showed me something in that fight that I hadn't seen before... maybe it was his opponents before Yordan but I'm more on board now fosho.
Man, I had never seen Caballero before until I saw him against Yordan. I could'nt believe how " horrible Caballero " is !! His side hooks are literally slaps, yes slaps as his fists are not even straight, he almost hits with his palms !!! Caballero is extremely slow to deal with Gamboa or Lopez, so he should'nt even be calling out the Cuban phenom if he does'nt want to end like Mtagwa. Caballero is plain slow, amaterish, predictable and soooo easy to hit, if Gamboa gets him in the ring it will be Mtagwa part 2...Yordan is a kid with no great amateur resume like Gamboa...Like that anyone can look good, but let's see how he handles an Olympic Champion, 3 times World Amateur Champ and 4 times Cuban National Champ...:bbb And, there's no way in a million years as to Gamboa nor Arum not wanting to fight Caballero. Yuriorkis does'nt back away from no one as since day 1 he has been fighting any one in his path. I just wish this fight does happen, Caballero will finally know why they call Gamboa " El Ciclón de Guantánamo "... :good
If Caballero has an answer to Gamboa's speed and power, he can make it a long night for Gamboa. Gamboa has improved abit and isn't as reckless as he used to be, but if he smells blood he can finish off Caballero at any moment of the fight. Caballero has very bad legs even when he's not hurt he's too slow. He'll have to keep Gamboa at a distance. Gamboa too fast, too strong. Gamboa KO5 Caballero. I think Lopez vs. Caballero would be a more evenly matched fight and one many people have been wanting to see.
