    re-post:

Here are some new, first hand info on Gamboa:

First of all Yuriorkis and his promotion were very sad that Norwood backed out of the Jan. 5 fight but Arena will try to lure Norwood into a fight at a later date (maybe a hint that Gamboa will fight Norwood on one of those 2 US-televised dates I stated in the initial post of this thread).

I was also told not to expect any kind of hint on Gamboa's next opponent because of Arena's current history of fights being cancelled...

    Now here's the interesting part:

Gamboa looks forward to get a title shot first at 126 for the WBA title an therefore Arena already making plans to get him into an eliminator in th near future. But if the WBC would give him a chance to compete for the title before the WBA makes a move, Gamboa would go this way (I think this depends on how Pacquiao - JMM comes off).

Finally Gamboa's management said that he wants to take home titles from 126 up to 135 which is his goal at this very moment...

So Gamboa vs. John would be the preference in here...who do you think would win this fight in about 9-12 months (Gamboa would have fought at least 5 times by then)?

I never saw Chris John fight so I have NO idea. Well that's not exactly true as I do KNOW how good Gamboa is. I'm gonna check John out.

By the way, I think that this fight would be staged either in the US or in Germany...so at least we would be able to watch it on TV...

Bad move by Gamboa's management. There are easier titleholders in the division than John if winning a belt is their goal. Gamboa better tighten up his defense before facing John or he might be in for a surprise.

IMO Gamboa is about competition - so why go for a top10 guy if fighting the best in the division is his aim...I like this set of mind...

Because John has the style to outbox Gamboa. Gamboa can get away with dropping his hands and pulling away from punches against the C+ and B competition that he's been facing of late. But against a good fighter like John, Gamboa can't do that **** and expect not to get hit.

Exactly. Boxing has become so much a business that even the fans think business sense rather than sport sense. In football you face everyone and toughest and cant cherrypick your opponents.

i think Gamboa needs to take his time. How old is he by the way??
From his experience it doesnt look like he is ready for a world class fighter. I hear alot of good things about him but lets not jump the gun he is unexperienced and this could maybe ruin his career. I would rather he wait and mature properly other than be pushed ala Vargas and become a nobody.

4 fights plus an eliminator might give Gamboa enough experience to be ready for the likes of a John.
Btw, a competative fight is better than a mismatch - even at world level...

He is able to do that because he did just the same when he was an amateur, and beat the best fighters in the world. Plus in the amateurs it's even more about speed.

How could this one end up in Indonesia? I don't think that John's promoter has that much money to stage it there...
