excellent post, the people that are saying he's been down twice aren't seeing the bigger picture. More to the point I dont think they saw the fights it happened in either. Put another way, has he been hurt? The answer from the evidence I have seen so far is a clear 'NO'. The De Jesus KD was from being off balance, he was up at 2 and clear eyed with no wobbly Zab Judah legs on display. He went straight on the offensive showing the only thing hurt was his pride and ego.
Right now Gamboa wins but in years time if Khan develops under a good trainer I think he beats Gamboa. And yes Gamboa was hurt, it was just a flash knock down, it took him some time to get his legs back.
i didnt see an option for they both left their hands down and simultaneoulsy got knocked out so i didnt vote
id have to disagree b/c aaron pryor took some hellacious shots from arguello and kept walking. idk if gamboa cud do that
mistake me if i'm wrong but hasn't khan been down twice aswell, and against far less accomplished fighters with poor KO ratios.
that mejdaji guy who came from france. no i think it was the one before him, drilzane i think his name was.
Gamboa showed in his recent knockdown that he has a very good chin, not a bad one. He gets caught flush on the temple and has the presence to brace his fall. In fact i don't even think that his ass touched the canvas. This content is protected
One very interesting result of Khan's which is virtually always overlooked is his defeat of Victor Ortiz in the final of the Junior Olympics. Khan stopped Ortiz in the 2nd round in what was a very easy win. And anyone who knows their boxing will know how good Ortiz is.
The referee wrongly counted it as a knockdown. Replays showed Khan's feet got caught up in the bottom rope
Khan is 5" taller which is significant, In a heavier weight category and throws much better straight shots where as Gamboa loves the left hook and left uppercut. Also I think Khan will improve considerably over the next year under RM. I still think if they fought now Khan wins because Gamboas defence consists of just body movement and footwork he rarely puts a guard up. I see Gamboa being like Ricky Hatton at a higher weight where his apparent physical strength becoming nulifide by the naturally bigger opponents.
Khan would hit him repeatedly with the same kind of punch unless Gamboa cleans up his act. Considering he has had 400 fights in which to develop these bad habits, I'd say it is likely he won't clean up his act. Can he take the hits from bigger, stronger opponents?
