gamboa has gotten away with not having sound technical skills for a long time. as Jimenez has showed, any fighter with decent boxing skills and chin is a whole lot for him to handle. gamboa will be the new fernando vargas
So what?, sometimes you take a good punch, it hurts you and you go down then back up. That DOESN'T mean the fighter has a glass chin, if he was knocked out or got up all wobbly and troubled then yes that could be the case but that isn't what happened.
Khan is a bit too big for Gamboa, in my opinion. If it was H2H P4P then I'd maybe go Gamboa, but as it is, Gamboa would go up in weight to face Khan and be overwhelmed by the size and strength advantage.
khan would KO gamboa, he just cannot afford to drop his hands like that against khan, if he does, he wont be getting back up. and yes, this has been discussed a million times. looks like much more people are siding with khan now. and rightly so
But that's the irony here. People are pointing at Khan and saying he has a weak chin because he went down against Limond. He also took a hell of a lot harder punch from Limond. He not only got back up, but got back up and beat Limond up, making him retire on the stool. I'm not saying either has a glass chin, although both seem easy to knock off balance and score a KD against. At this moment in time, I couldn't give a prediction on Khan vs Gamboa because I haven't seen Gamboa operate against a similar style to Khan's, he hasn't really been in there with quick combination throwing boxers. All I know is, it's hard to knock a guy who has beaten an ex champion and won a title eliminator over a guy who has only really just arrived on the scene, despite an impressive amateur background (this is even forsaking Khan's background as an amateur)
I can't believe it's a newsflash to some people that sometimes prospects learn things the hard way. They both got KD'd, they both recovered to beat their opponents handsomely. Neither of them have been exposed for anything, except for having the heart to get off the canvas and win.
Agree completely with this sentiment. It's not how many times you go down that matters, it's how many times you get back up - both of these guys got back up and were able to dominate their opponent afterwards.
I think Gamboa is probably faster, but he throws wide angled punches so often, like that hook that he got countered on and put down. The one thing about Khan that impresses me is that he throws tight compact punches. I just don't see the point in trying to say "Khan is a bum, Gamboa is god" - Khan has beaten an ex champ and won an eliminator, Gamboa hasn't done that yet to my knowledge.
Uhhh I think its the other way around.. Gamboa wasnt the one that was put on ***** street and on his ass by a guy with only 8 KOs in 25 fights!!! [YT]rFlxTwVgE2w[/YT]
Yeah ok i think you need to watch the video again.. and he even buys more time by going on his knees again when the ref was done counting. He should of stopped the fight right there because you cant go on your knees again for a rest after you're knocked down its automatic stoppage.
Also, notice that it was actually like four FLUSH punches, in a row, right on his head. It wasn't one big shot that knocked him down instantly.
