go to ring.com he explains why the fight isnt 100 % already. "No," Gamboa said when asked if he would attend the L.A. press conference on Tuesday. "There's no contract and there is no fight." "Whenever everything is clear with my contract, that's when the fight will happen, but right now I'm not under the terms that I want the fight to happen," Gamboa told RingTV.com. "I don't have a problem with HBO, and I hope that HBO doesn't have a problem with me either because everything that's happening with me, I didn't choose to be in the position I'm in right now. "But this is the time to do this, because if I don't stand up for myself, nobody else is going to do it. I never thought that things would wind up this way, but there was never a contract and there was never a signature from Gamboa agreeing to fight with Brandon Rios on April 14."
Arum messed up. He thought he could con Gamboa like he does some other fighter that I won't name, but he said screw that
Also a thought i gave. I feel like Arum didnt care that contracts were not signed and that if everything were just pushed out really fast Gamboa would feel pressured and feel obligated to sign the contract regardless of how shitty the terms would have been. Gamboa said nope.
Why the **** didn't Gamboa say something before the promoting started or as soon as the tickets went on sale?
Why would Top Rank spend $40k on press conferences if Gamboa has no contract. Something is fishy here and I am pretty certain Gamboa is at fault. Look at Top Ranks track record of when people tried to leave them: Omar Henry, Nonito Donaire, etc. This isn't going to end good for Gamboa. He is going to be put on the shelf for quite a while.
Well, he hooked up with Floyd at Las Vegas and this is what happened. Great advise, Floyd! How to duck 101...
I thought Rios went to "Pacman's make little guys come up in weight and hope you win" school of Cherrypicking.
