can Gamboa hang with the best 130 fighters in the world like Pac,JMM,Guzman,Valero and Soto or is it too early too tell?
It's not too early to tell that he WILL be able to. I think he could be Valero in the next 6 months. But the other 3....he would need till 09. But he is certainly good enough to be one of the top 130 or 135lb fighters within the next 2 years. He is that good and talented. Just a little polish.
I dunno.....Valero has the looks of one of the more overrated fighters in recent history. I think within 6-7 fights, Gamboa could stop him. The other fighters are more polished, and he needs some time to gain some of that polish.
Im sure he will be put to the test against someone really good in about 5 or 7 more fights, and he will show that 'Yes he does have what it takes to fight and beat the big boys.
Would be a good test around his 15th to 17th fight. Other greats have fought and won titles around this time. He has that look.
one thing i think he should quit is fighting with hands low,in his last fight he suffered a flash knockdown and against a big puncher that could cost him.not everybody can be Roy Jones but this guy looks like a special fighter.
Speed-, agility-, counterpunch-, defence-, footwork-, reflexes- and head movement wise he matches them equally if not much better. I noticed only 2 things that might cause a problem now and/or in the future: 1: He's a bit cocky/overconfident in the ring with his hands very low. Now of course he might change that when he fights better opposition but still, one punch can change a whole fight. 2: At this stage his conditioning/endurance capacity isn't enough for 10/12 rounds. I think he could stay up for 12 rounds because he is in superb condition but his punch output would be very low. He needs to learn how to use his energy more economic otherwise he'll punch himself out. Note: at #2 you could remember Haye punching himself out against Carl thompson and got knocked out. Gamboa world champion no doubt:happy
Oddly enough, I think THIS guy CAN be RJJ. However, I mentioned that earlier too, as many other have, so you're spot on. I think he does this because he knows he can. I doubt you would see this versus Pacquiao or even Valero.
After 5 to 7 fights is a f&*ing long time for him. I'd say he is ready for a top 10 fighter after 2/3 more fights. He is now number 25 if I am correct.
