Gamboa

I think that Gamboa intentionally allowed Jimenez to hit him so that he looks more vulnerable and therefore can get more fights in his ascension to god-King status over the empire, this is the only explanation possible, as Gamboa is an all knowing divine Monarch that gets carried around on a gigantic gold staircase with ornaments.

It did the trick in fooling people, as we see people are doubting him. Perhaps a Jorge Linares steps up and our King can destroy him and bring our holy Empire under the Supernatural Triumvirate honour and glory, breaking away from old, fascist traditions.

On the Casamayor bit---Countering Gamboa is nice and all but I doubt he has the power to hurt Gamboa and furthermore, I don't think he has the reflexes to catch someone with faster hands like Gamboa.

Santa Cruz got to him, Katsidis knocked him out of the ring what would the faster handed more sure of chin intelligent Gamboa do?

Onto the defense:

Overconfidence yes...poor defense no.

I think you're just trying to stir the **** here. His defense isn't poor, He obviously showed the ability to block punches and dip and dodge out of the way against Jiminez and his other opponents.

Just because his defense isn't "conventional" doesn't make it poor. It's heavily reliant on reflexes and dipping and ducking.

 

One thing is for sure and can't take it away from him:

-Gamboa never brought media hysteria and (blind) fans alongside with him from the amateurs (like Oscar or Amir), in fact, few have ever heard of him before among the average boxing fans
-there's no big Cuban (=national) community here standing behind him (like PacMan and the Filipinos or Golota and the Polish fans, Mayweather and the Americans), in fact, he's fighting in foreign countries
-There's no big $$$ media hype behind him (like in case of Khan for example), not one prestige appearance on a huge card (like Jacobs on DLH-Forbes) - he started on gym cards fighting before an audience of 25.

So other than his superb amateur resume, he's started his pro career with a clean slate, and all he did was destroying everyone they put in front of him, and in stunning fashion - THAT’s why all the hype started and where it really should be - among the sport fans. Slowly everyone, I mean EVERYONE from the average boxing fan to the media personnel, from commentators to ringside experts, from writers to promoters, everyone started to talk about Gamboa, and that situation is very different from the usual (being a national icon where you’re fighting, getting the media hype and other things outside of the ring). Then again, it was Gamboa himself and his work inside the ring that started all the hype.

And you think you’ve seen it all? Watch these forums getting absolutely wild when he destroys Rojas on June 27th, believers and non-believers will jump on each others’ throat one arguing with every fight other than the Jimenez and the other is bringing up the Jimenez bad memories all the time... This is the very beginning of the things to come. I don’t know how far will he go with his definitely visible flaws and loads of potential, but one thing is for sure - whatever he does, it will bring emotions to the boxing communities. Truly what our sport needs.

 

Who wins?

Gamboa is the underdog, but a live one.

I'm hesitating between the first and the second poll option! :think

 

No doubt Gamboa is faster than Katsidis, but he wouldn't put the pressure on Casa like Katsidis did either, thus allowing Casa more time to wisely choose his shots.. I'm not saying he can knock Gamboa out, but he jab and counter his way to a wide ud..

I say his defense is poor because while he keeps his hands low, he keeps them down even after taking several shots.. He might have the ability to dip and dodge Jiminez's punches, but fighting someone faster and more skillful, he would be in trouble based on him taking many shots.. He's not gonna' be able to dip and dodge everyone's attacks, especially if it's from someone whos' fast, accurate, and able to put on the right amount of pressure.. I'm not trying to stir **** up here.. You just don't see eye to eye with my opinions..

 

Gamboa just looked like another talented prospect with lots of flaws to be fixed, there is no need to be overrating the guy this much right now because ff he falls, then the hype train will crash real hard.

That night I was more impressed by the all action Angulo.

 

Gamboa KO's Hearns cold within the first three seconds while Tyson is doing his opening round out-of-the-corner-relaxed-jogging thing, then he proceeds to take a brutal beating from Tyson for 8 rounds before his corner stops it in between rounds worrying about his health. When Gamboa finds out his corner stopped it, he goes nuts, tells his promoter to fire his entire corner team and demands a rematch with Tyson.

 

Gamboa destroys both of them easily! Why even make such a silly poll when you know Gamboa is the truth!

This thread sucks as much as the ones that praise him beyond his current scope.

Eastside is declining, and fast, as I assume that 80% are newly created once banned accounts, or maybe just ******ed youngsters with nothing better to do than hoping for the lost attention they never got as kids.
