gamboa is an apparent head case. what he needs is a disciplinarian/trainer that could whup his ass and get some obedience into him. also, his promoter shouldn't pamper him so much and fire the trainer just because gamboa doesn't like/get along w/ him. but i guess he knows who his "cash cow" is and will always side w/ him. i feel sorry for any trainer that team gamboa gets since apparently he'll be on a tight leash.
I think Evangelista Cotto would be a great pic for Gamboa for several reasons. He speaks the same language and has experience converting fighters with rich amatuer backgrounds into a successful pro style without affecting their natural talents. Evangelista will make him not waste punches and definitely make him keep his hands up. Also, EC will teach him not to stand straight up and expose his chin like he does...that **** is going to get him KO'd very soon.
No... no!!! :admin Kidding aside, Gamboa has the talent to pick up and profit from Buddy's ideas. Trouble is, I've seen enough guys who actually speak English having issues figuring out what Buddy is getting at to think the language barrier would be a problem. He's not Yoel Judah, but he gets a little carried away.
Gamboa is only 26 yrs old and he needs a big time trainer to help him with his pro defense. It doesn't really matter how many amateur fights a fighter has he still needs to adjust and learn the pro game. Most of these big time amateur have defense problems in the beginning of there pro career. Let see how Gamboa does in his next couple of fights before calling this kid a overrated fighter. I don't know any other fighter who took a big step in his 10th pro fight.
not exactly a big step but a step up nontheless. he took on a ring veteran w/ some punch but also who hasn't fought for more than a year. this guy was max C-level but can easily be even lower. still, this guy managed to floor him. that doesn't bode well for the future when gamboa makes the leap up in class and finally takes on B, A and Elite level opposition.
I don't know any other fighter who took a big step in his 10th pro fight.
Leon Spinks vs. Ali
Leon Spinks vs. Ali
now, that's definitely a BIG step up. :good he actually faced Ali in his 8th and 9th pro fight.
well, that "shell" of ali was still enough to beat spinks on the rematch which was actually spink's 9th pro fight.
Of course it was still Ali nontheless, but a person cannot argue that he was waay past it. I think its quite impressive that Gamboa shut out (or damn near) such a prime, good fighter in his 10th fight. Usually the type of guy like Jiminez is your 20-25th fight
