Are there any game bred staffy's left? I don't fight dogs and never will but I'm quite interested in it's history. it seems like game bred stafs have pretty much disappeared.
When dog fighting was illegalised, the show arena and its standards took over in the uk, the majority of game dogs were exported to the usa and Canada, later to be known as the american pit terrier. The fighting competition and specialist breeding on them shores improved them to high standards, while in the uk they devoloped a long snout under athletic body wich was unfit for purpose, IE, Lennox Lewis v Arnold Schwartznegger. At the same time no breeding and testing for gameness makes the current Staffordshire dog ungame, us terms a kerr.
good analogy i think game staff and game pits are essentially the same with the real difference being that the pit is larger. I know they been bred into show dogs. But u would think there would be ppl in Europe (especially Britain or ireland) Who need a good working dog. Last i heard of one, was a dog named sinbad. a gd champ beating 3-4 good pits.
I don't think there are any "true staffords" left. Supposedly there are a few people quietly keeping them going but it sounds like hopeful fantasy to me. The Staffordshire Bull terrier is practically extinct. "It's a crying shame."
