Gammer defeated on his comeback This content is protected Scott Gammer slipped to the third defeat of his career Former British heavyweight champion Scott Gammer's return to the ring ended in brave defeat in Berlin. The 31-year-old from Pembroke Dock hurt his right hand in the second round of his clash with Francesco Pianeta for the vacant EBU-EU heavyweight belt. He battled well one-handed, but retired on his stool at the end of the eighth. Is this now the end for Gammer?
He does not seem to have any bottle when facing an half decent fighter. He reminds me of a play ground bully who is ok dishing out a beating but mentallt weak if a kid fights back. I would like to see him carry on and maybe have a gimme fight before one last test against an ok opponent.
If he'd had that right hand, he'd have won and probably knocked out the rather cautious Pianeta. Even with just his left he was able to bang in several hard shots. Not a fan of Gammer, but I felt he was unfortunate to lose this one. Pianeta looked very tepid in there.
Peniseater was a very poor opponent and showed no signs of talent even against an injured and not so great Gammer. Maybe if Gammer was fully fit the fight would have gone the other way.
A two-handed Gammer would of beaten Pianeta that night. I had him down by 1 if I remember correctly. He gave Pianeta all sorts of trouble with continuous left hooks.
But, and I've always banged on about this ever since it happened...Gammer made utterly the wrong call when he decided not to fight Audley a couple years back, out of very little reason other than to try to get one over a guy that had bad-mouthed him before. If Gammer had jumped at that chance, things could be so different for him now.
Indeed. It was a great opportunity but i dont think Gammer had as much belief in himself as his handlers did.. The reality was he was big kid but he wasnt much of puncher was quite slow and easy to hit. I guess his off to retirement again then.
I seen Gammer before in the ICE BAR in Swansea on a Saturday night. He was there with a woman - probaly his missus - and he was drinking a bottle of booze. FAT JOE was with me at the time - and we both agreed - look at him boozing and dancng around - he is not going anywhere in boxing. Then he surprised us by winning the British heavyweight title - and I thought Gammer might be alot better than I thought. But the easy manner in which Danny Williams knocked him out when he upped the pressure confirmed to me how limited Gammer was. He was a limited fighter who at least can say he done well to win a British Heavyweight Title. He was never going to excel beyond British level - he was not good enough. He definelty shot himself in the foot not fighting Audley - because he lost his British title next fight to Williams probaly for £20,000. And instead he could have lost his British title to Audley Harrison for £100,000.
