If Andy (RIP), in May, 1982, faced either Ray or Arturo, instead of Alexis, he wins the wba Lightweight title by early rds KO. REST IN PEACE ANDY. You are remembered.
Me too. Maybe hardest straight left I ever saw. Super exciting fighter. Slaughters Mancini as easy as Sean me thinks.
He knocked out a friend of mine, which I was unaware of until looking at his record just now. I knew my friend had fought Escalera for the title and been ko'd, but never knew his last fight was with Ganigan.
Carlo Becerril was KO d by Escalera on May 26, 77 in Landover on the Ali/Evangelista Duran/Muniz card in 8. Lethal Andy Ganigan, Waipahu's Sugarman, turned the trick in 2 on May 30, 1978
Ganigan blasts out Frias early. However Mancini proved himself by giving Arguello a tough contest and showed he could box well against southpaws defeating Jose Luis Ramirez. Ganigan not as durable as Mancini. Mancini ko mid rds.
Yeah but Mancini was never the same chinwise after Arguello. He was rocked by lighthitting Frias that day! The Ganigan that fought Arguello in May 82, takes Ray of May 82 out quick. Good night sweet prince!
I like Ganigan alot but I don't see him beating Mancini even after the Arguello fight it took a long fight in which he was exhausted and had been beaten down to drop him and even then he got up.....I do not consider his challengers as being absent of power they just caught him many fighters get rocked even by fighters who are not known KO artists IMO many fighters get to the top through natural comfort zones but just because a fighter does not like to slug doesn't mean he is absent of power....Manny Steward was a master at taking fighters not known for punching and teaching them how to use their power to the max he knew from experience that many fighters were never trained how to use it. Ganigan with Paqiauo's speed devastates the lightweights what is really said his how he died the Hawaiian punch deserved better than cancer and the cancer that killed him. I see him stopping Frias for the title when I am not sure he wasn't a swarmer he was a true pure puncher Ganigan’s niece, Michell Shue, tells the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that Ganigan never fully recovered from injuries suffered in a March 2010 attack by 21-year-old Matthew Kupa outside a bar in Waipahu, Hawaii. The 6-foot, 290-pound Kupa told police he had been drinking and didn’t remember pummeling Ganigan. Kupa was sentenced this year to 18 months in prison.
