    WESLACO –They’re back!
After years of waiting, Weslaco’s Roberto “La Amenaza” Garcia and Harlingen native “King” James De La Rosa will finally make their triumphant return to the Rio Grande Valley as both will head line “Border Explosion” this Friday night at the Pharr Events Center.
Garcia (30-3, 21 KO’s), whose last fight in the Rio Grande Valley was March 5th of 2010, will face Antwone Smith (21-3-1, 12 KO’s) in the main event as a part of ESPN Friday Night Fight’s and said that he was happy to return to fight in front of his hometown fans.
“I love fighting here because I get to see a lot of familiar faces and that means so much to me,” said Garcia at the official press conference Wednesday afternoon at Buffalo Wings and Rings in Weslaco. “The support I receive here always adds fuel to the fire and I can’t wait to step out into the Pharr Events Center Friday and hear those Valley fans screaming and cheering.”
Smith proves to be a tough test for Garcia due to the fact that he has faced some stiff competition such as Lanardo Tyner and former champion Kermit Cintron. However, Garcia said he only has one thing in mind.
“There is no doubt that Smith is a tough fighter and both of us have something to prove here. However the only thing that I care about is getting the win,” said Garcia. “I had a tough camp and am ready to go.”
Julio Marines, president of Marines Promotions, said that if Robert is victorious, there is a huge fight on the horizon for him.
“If Robert wins Friday night, there is a very good possibility that he might face Saul “Canelo” Alvarez,” said Marines. “It is going to be an important night for Robert but I am very confident that he will take care of business.”

Pretty good matchup on FNF. I like Smith, but would like to see Garcia get a shot at Canelo.

Canelo has a lot more power and is really calm in the ring. Garcia would test him, for sure, and could possibly follow Gomez's example but land harder shots that would do some damage.

Canelo would be a big favorite, but it would be a good fight. TKO late or 116-112 decision Canelo.

i would love to see that fight. Canelo ko'd a shadow of Cintron and it doesnt seem that Garcia gets discouraged easily and looks like he has a pretty good chin. i could see a 12 rd war with no defense...... my kind of fight!!!

I thought De La Rosa was a legit prospect, then I saw him look like crap against a shitty fighter (Allan Conyers...I think).

i thought brunson was a good prospect too untill he fought carson jones which in return lost to roberto garcia. maybe they bith had an off night. either way de la rosa-brunson garcia-smith should make for good entertainment.
