    So we're just going by Boxrec now? The OP said Maidana was a cherry pick for Mayweather. Boxrec had Maidana top 5 at WW and top 15 p4p when Mayweather fought him. So Boxrec can't be that important to him. I doubt many people on here have even seen Salka fight.

    Old Zab - elite fighter?

    Lucas - Yeah, that's good stuff.

    Herrera - elite fighter?

    You have glassy chin, shot Judah, a good fight and a fringe contender he didn't beat that he should rematch now.

    Not like he faced 4 killers in a row. Not like he's been beaten up bad.

    Peterson would be a useful opponent in the meantime if no rematch, instead he's facing number 77.

    You boxing fans have evolved into weaklings.

    Maidana was a cherry pick. The division is loaded with top talent like Thurman, Bradley, Alexander(who schooled Maidana 12-0), Porter and of course Pacquaio and you're fighting Maidana twice.

    Cherry pick. Get it?

    The WBC had Rod Salka ranked no 77 in their rankings. He is an absolute nobody.

    Normally for a soft touch you take a fringer out of the top 5, around 10-15, this is downright absurdity and shows the degradation of quality that we get in this era.

    And you are defending it.

    No. You yourself said Maidana is a tough stylistic match up for Floyd. And you are the one who is trumpeting Boxrec's ranking system. So your argument makes little to no sense.

    This is not a video game these are real people here.:deal I realize that you can't face world class opposition every time out you ruin fighters that way. If in his next fight he fights sub par comp then I could see an argument but as of now I'm not buying it.

    He's not just fighting sub world class opposition you ****ing tool, he's fighting an absolute nobody. Not even a note worthy fringer/gate keeper. A total scrub.

    I said he was a cherry pick gone wrong, supposed to be easy but ended up not being due to styles and inspired performance. He was supposed to be yet another latin flat footed plodder that provided little resistence to getting outboxed 12-0.

    And this is meanwhile there are much better fighters at Welter that will not be considered, suppose you missed that part, which is conducive to it being considered a cherry pick.

    Maidana is easier than Thurman, Bradley, Porter, Alexander and Pacquaio. This much has been proven by performances.

    Use your brain a little, it helps with life.:deal

    I understand that he also is basically coming off of a loss give the guy a break. He has a very good resume and came up the hard way he wasn't handed anything.

    His resume is average and has a long way to go before it's considered top caliber. Khan, Judah, shot Morales and Matthysse with a loss to Herrera.

    I suppose I have to repeat that Herrera is a gate keeper level fighter and has been for the duration of his career.

    Gift decision? Rematch. That's how it works.

    Had the decision gone Herrera's way, there would be a rematch.

    Oh *****'s.... so off base always....

    Im not going to defend garcia, per se. But we do not know what, if any, other combatants turned down the fight.

    Ive had 2 fighters that have been on Showtime boxing, and unless the dynamics of it have changed, Showtime is the one who makes a list of ten possible opponents, the promoter makes a list of ten possible opponents and the similiar/same opponents are then evaluated.

    If those ten opponents are not available, the promoter & network then go to what is called backups or fill-ins. Opponents like Salka that may not be World Champ quality, but will take the fight & put up a good effort.

    Salka may not be the best choice, but he was probably the best available for the pay, demands of GBP & Showtime.

    Hell, when I had Travis Walker on Showtime, the opponent list included: Cris Arreola, Cedric Boswell, Brian Minto, among others and the opponent became TJ Wilson, some nobody that ended up KO-ing Walker.

    Boxing fans need to be grateful that we get fights to watch & stop b.itching all the time about the opponents. People complained about Algieri vs Provodnikov and look how that turned out.

    Could be he and his team are taking the Herrera fight as a loss and are seeing this bout as a rematch? or come back bout.
